(813) Review: Sparrows VORAX Advanced Lock Pick Set

I'm a beginner in the world of lock picking but don't mind spending some money on an nice, professional lock picking set right off the bat...I usually like to jump in with both feet. When I get into something I get into it lol. With that said, would rather buy 1 nice set of picks rather than buy a beginner set only to find I need to buy a 'professional' set later. Would the Vorax be one of those professional sets? If not would you recommend one to me? Ohh and I forgot to mention, I live in Florida...so I think ill be encountering mostly american locks (aka not euros) Thanks in advance!

+John Michael Hinson Then the Vorax will be an excellent kit. Go ahead and order a couple of extra rakes, because new pickers ALWAYS break a couple while learning.

If I were you I'd go for the Monstrum XXL. Sure it's expensive,but it has just about everything you'll need-aside from locks of course. Also, buy lots of cheapo locks (Preferably not rusty/used ones as they're significantly harder to open) Best of luck man, I know when I just started it was a painful process (at first) but as I got better it really started to get fun. Be patient and you'll learn an awesome new skill. :-)

I got the vorax set when it first came out and I still use it for all locks with wide open keyways. So I also ordered a slimline set, and single picks of the .015 as when you need a skinny pick the .015 is the best to reach for. But I did go over budget on my picks but I also haven't had to get more multiple times. I highly recommend this set to any picker.

Love Sparrows Lock Picks. Hate Sparrows customer service. Don't expect too much. In an email exchange it was quite clear that once the goods were shipped, they were not interested in helping any further.

I've had the opposite experience. They immediately emailed back. Corrected a mistake and even threw in a dark shift kit Bogota rake I had broken. Maybe because I'm so close to the seller or maybe they've upped their customer service game.

Nice looking kit. @Bill about the tubular tensioner, would, I have tested and if you try it on a Kensington lock for example isn't it large? For me it slips around the middle pole. What is you comment on that?

I had a question you were talking about Eero and the United States are those tools for certain locks on a different country or can they be used in the US?

Sure, no problem. In Europe the keyways are usually more paracentric (curvy) and have a lot of warding. This requires a thinner pick profile and thinner material, like 0.015" or so. In the US, keyways are generally wider and more open, but the Euro picks will fit. They ARE a bit more fragile, so if you are a beginner I'd recommend learning on picks that are 0.025" thick first.

Just came across this, with over 5000 comments I wonder if someone has answered but the pick @11:50 with the "bump" my theory is you answered your own question. It's a dual sided / dual function pick, I think the little "nub" is so that you have a way to know what way you currently have it inserted in the lock.

It is very nice set and there is no "pendiculation" at all when I watching Your videos and learning how to lockpick some 'old garbage' with very basic handmade tools from windshield wiper :-) On the other hand it is very useful to know, what is really important when you buy some locks for secure your family and privacy.
