I guess the Z28 was a rental since they didn’t scratch it. Such a careful slow chase when on the city streets. Unlike the jumpers later!

Definitely the way I recall vehicles back then, accurate to the slow cars of the 1980s.

True.. but I'd gladly take a gutless early 80s Gm or Toyota over these ugly looking, unnecessarily complicated, overpriced, modern appliances we call automobiles today. I'm all for safety and technology, but countless automobiles go to the scrapyard far too soon, due to repair costs being high over something as small as sensor that takes too much time to get to, or elusive electrical shorts due to manufacturers putting too much unnecessary crap in cars. Planned obsolescence is a serious issue. I mean they put starters under the damn intake now, wtf?

@@privateprivate1865 I have questioned engineers and their logic when it comes to wear type items my entire adult life of wrenching. Who puts a heater core behind the dashboard? Or a starter underneath an intake manifold, or spark plugs against a firewall, or how about the oil filter where it is almost inaccessible and when you spin it off it gets used oil on everything and that is after you remove a splash shield or 2, speaking of splash shields How about plastic trim clips that are designed to go in but not come back out assuring the mechanic will almost always break at least a few of them they are all over the exterior and interior of a modern vehicle that probably starts in the 1990s. How about the electrical plugs that started coming out in the 1980s (with the rise of electronic fuel injection) that we still use today that easily gets stuck together from their watertight connection so when you press the button to release them they never pull apart so you end up having to pry them apart sometimes breaking the clip in the process. When we are talking about reliability I would say about 1996 to somewhere around 2005 ish is the pinnacle of reliability without too many overly complicated systems but the cars are pretty cheesily built using all those things I just complained about. When we are talking about cars that are designed to be worked on by a mechanic or even a enthusiast. I'm going to have to say the 1920's through the late 1960s are are the best cars to wrench on or repair by the hobbyist, every year after that point the cars get more and more plastic, more trim clips, more compact and just become a nightmare to work on. I am not trying to be a hater on vehicles from the 1980s or newer there is actually a handful of 1980s cars I really like because of their simplicity and reliability. I just remember when all those cars were late model used cars when I started driving and I can't think of a single one that was moderately spry but I can appreciate some of the 1980s styling because at least it was styling. Since the mid-1990s everything looks pretty much the same the only thing that changes is the size of the headlights and tail lights... There is a poster online of a bunch of white midsize SUVs from all the different manufacturers and they all look almost I absolutely identical, I know every era there is a certain design language followed byt no cars are so bland unless they are modern clones of a former era (like the Challenger or Mustang).

@@privateprivate1865: Fun fact: Georgians are buying written off cars in the USA, and shipping them to Georgia (the country in the Caucasus, not the US state). There they are fixed for only 20% of the cost of repairing them in the USA (or stripped for spare parts). Then they are sold to dealers in Khazakstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, who sell them on to buyers from Russia. It’s a booming multi million dollar business. Tens of thousands of American insurance write off cars are ending up in Russia this way. And that’s the way Russia is evading Western sanctions.
