My father was a Ranji Player from 1985 to 1994. He played for the Rajasthan State Team as a Leg spinner or a Left arm orthodox spinner and his coach was Mohinder Amarnath who is in this World Cup team... In 1993 when my brother was born... Jimmy sir or Mohinder Amarnath sir was the coach and my father named my brother Jimmy after him... Everything that is shown in this movie mostly everything was so true... When they won in 1983 everyone start recognizing India as a Strong Team in cricket... Before that no one cares if India is even in the Tournament or not... Today what players are getting facilities and services by BCCI ... I'll say and i think everyone will agree with me.. that its the world cup team of 1983 who took this sport to another level in this country......

This win of 1983 actually gave birth to what is now a religion in India.... One more thing to add... All the flair , the charisma of Sir Viv Richards that is depicted in this film is very true, and is exactly similar to what the present world thinks of Virat Kohli (Indian Cricketer) today...

Man... It's depressing that films with such emotional core and stories that talk about our glorious history doesn't often deem profitable for it's makers. No wonder Bollywood isn't keen in investing at original stories and rather opt for mass masalas and remakes.

Just a heads up to point out that they've used a lot of real footage/photos from the matches, including their passports Edit: This World Cup wasn't just about cricket, it was probably one of the first times India had gained this level of international recognition, it united the whole country and gave us hope, strengthened our soft power especially after all the Pak/China wars, and we defeated the best team at the time, in our colonisers' country, England.

Shantell says of Viv Richards - “I like the way he Carries it”… my Man, Shantell you should have seen the Original Viv Richards. That guy had charisma, style and a swagger when he walked into the field. He would send down shivers in the opposing team with his presence. He would single handedly dismantle bowling attacks and never ever lose his cool. He was the most destructive batsman in Cricket. He wasn’t called King Viv for nothing. His strokeplay, calm aggression, style and batting made him hugely popular and envied around the world. Every time he toured India, he would knock the stuffing out of India’s bowlers. To the extent that whenever the West Indian team(A collective nomenclature for the team from the Caribbean islands) toured India, thousands of Indians would offer prayers in Indian temples, mosques and churches for Viv Richards quick dismissal in the game… but their prayers would never be answered and he would pile on the runs against India because even the gods wanted to watch Viv Richards bat.

This film was a materpiece.. ON PAPER! Never has an Indian sports film, let alone be a True events based one, been so damn well-written. The way they give every character equal importance, keep it real yet uplifiting. Just WOW. Where the film lacked, and I saw it twice in packed theatres, was in the direction. Kabir Khan is great, but here he just literally translated the written matter on screen. Most of the emotional scenes felt like they were clubbed together without giving any breathing space to soak in the moments.. before you can begin clapping at what just happened, next scene begins.. apart from Kapil Dev's world record, and the interval point, nothing really stayed with me.. While the ending was apt, the climactic match was just rushed through like so much else of the movie This was the match that started it all! It deserved a more rousing treatment. Great writing is more than half job done. But filmmaking still needs to be apt enuff.. It was a damn good muvi. Just not great enuff. And that's a shame when everything else abt the film was simply phenomenal (casting cudnt hv been better)

West Indies back then we’re GOAT level monstrous players. Beating them with pretty much newbies on the Indian team is the pride. That victory was what literally sparked the passion for cricket in india 🇮🇳 ❤❤❤

Nearly everything which is shown in this movie did happen m a 90s kid m a hardcore cricket fan too my dad used to tell me stories which he heard during 83 world cup and as I grew up I started following it too cause I have an older brother he follows cricket too so the stories which I heard as I grew up started watching videos and all it was exactly like this as shown in movie and it changed the game forever..... I saw this one in theatre with my frnds and all and it was bonkers it was turned into a stadium.... Every small details were taken care while making this movie infact the west indies team players shown in this movie most of them are real kids of those legendary cricketers ala I would like to mention we appreciate international players too so it's fine to ask their autographs...... Also u won't feel this movie at that level as I did because I ve followed this game since my childhood........

That is a real documentry and real pictures and clips. Each key detail is shot as close to reality as possible at it was in 1983.

Fun fact, current west Indies team is completely contrary to that 70s mighty west Indian team. Two time world cup winner west indies today struggles to even qualify to play world cup.

Guysss i seriously love you for this reaction, a great movie that didn't do well at the box office just because of a stupid scene and hypocrisy of the audience.

we have heard many stories from the 1983 victory and here I would like to share one, this one is narrated by my mother, " she said that back then there were not much televisions around so people would listen to sports commentary over the radio. they sort of knew that some cricket world cup is going on and as usual west indies or england will win, but then someone came running and said that india is playing the final and is winning and everyone huddled around the radio and then the rest was history. from radio to disney hotstar, even cricket has come a long way
