Sailed the Med twice when we were,younger, once as a young couple as you are with our 6 year old in 1984, and again in 2006. Both times in our home made steel boat Tin Lizzy. Love watching your adventures while in lockdown...takes me back to my youth!

Sailing Kittiwake ..she still is an excellent boat, 40 years since we built her and this is her first year not sailing...she’s in lockdown on the side! We have never wanted to do the next stage, however, and tackle the Atlantic, so I will be watching with interest. And yes, we did it on a shoestring, but it was worth it, and continues to be worth it in old age because it gives us lots of memories, not always good...you do have to take the rough with the smooth, and the rough can be wearing. Enjoy

"I'm OK with 4 or 5 knots". Exactly the right attitude. I don't get the people that say your type boat is too slow. I just tell them I'm on a sailboat, Not Delta Airlines. Looks like you are getting to know Skua and are comfortable with her. Great. Also really good video technique. Some seem to move the camera too quickly. Gives me a headache. Hi Guys. I love your videos and have followed your journey so far. I'm not half an experienced big boat sailor as you, but have built 4 small boats, which means you have to think about balance. I have been wondering why you only use 1 head sail, but your comments about the size of the main and the weather helm have prompted me to. A cutter is designed to be sailed with 3 sails, 2 smaller for sails and a larger main compared to a sloop. It's more work, but when reefing you should take a bit off all 3 sails to maintain balance and avoid lee or weather helm. Sailing a boat with 3 sails is more work than 2, which is why sloop are more popular. That's made up for though by how beautiful a cutter looks under full canvas! Try playing with your sail and reefing combinations, I think it will make a big difference to your steering! Fair winds!

Very pleasing to see both of You in Your back-to-sailboat, capable-again Skua, testing third reefs hobbyhorsing in the middle of the night with a laugh, sporting a late-season tan and "having places to go" way more tempting than Mallorca, what's practically the entire rest of our beautiful globe ... I'm afraid I have to add though: get Yourself a proper rod and an evenly proper reel. It pays. 🍻

Nice bodge on the chain plates. I recall Tom Cunliff saying a good bodge should do at least a thousand miles (something like that). Yours looked very good. Nice to see you’ve settled into watch keeping using 4 hrs. We’re on lock down here in London and I’ve got the dog watch (4 to 8) and my wife does the rest. I’m kidding. I know your videos are a good few months behind current time, we recently beat into 38 to 45 knots true on a Lavranos L 34 (great bulletproof little boats) and had to put in a 3rd reef as the wind strengthened (off Cape Town, early March '20, doing a RYA coastal skippers practical) hove to and put in the reef comfortably , sailed into our slip at Hout bay in 35 knots sustained because the raw water intake had created a vacuum to the impellor due to our angle of heel.. good fun, obviously things have changed significantly since😱😱 Fair winds and stay safe

It's the rolling that is so exhausting. Get a catamaran it will change everything unless you like sailing upwind. Make your own fishing lures out of toothpaste tubes they work great. 3hr night watches.

First of all congratulations on your thorough repairs. I'd say the passage tested them well! Secondly, of all the sailing channels I watch, you guys have twice (I believe) been anchored in ~60kts. So, the beginning discussion of being prepared with your newly made anchorage sail for "high" wind at upcoming anchorages was interesting. I've never seen a sail like that used. Does it work by providing forward thrust? Or, is mainly for keeping the bow to the wind? Finally, your filming, editing, and coverage of the passage was superb.

When it comes to Fishing, I think you sailors need to upgrade your gear because it is worth your while. Namely, the end of the line where the lure is attached must be all Steel (6 to 8 feet). This will prevent cutting off the lines by big fish with sharp teeth. You can thank me later when enjoying fresh fish daily for your meals. Fair winds & All the best of sailing!

Haha! Senior 😂 It’s been a year only. We think to have a cat that’s actually comfortable you’d need at least a 37ft model with good water clearance (NOT an old Prout for example) and even then in big seas, you’ll be bouncing. Just our very personal opinion.
