This is Frode Jorgensen´s spectacular Audi Quattro S1 E3, a Group B inspired machine built upon a 1986 Quattro to mimic a possible evoution of the mythic S1 E2. Powered by the old R520vT Inline 5 Turbo engine, producing here upwards of 800Hp on full boost and delivering a tremendous Soundtrack, only moving 1100Kg, it is a brutal machine with Gatebil in mind, but here doing its debut in HillClimb Racing at the Norges Raeste Bakkelop, Norway´s roughest HillClimb.

I would love to pick the brain of whoever set up this car. The way it rotates without even loading the front end is so impressive. No dive under braking, yet weight transfers to the rear upon exit. Thats a special car. Just look at how composed the man is behind the wheel. It looks like hes driving at 7-8/10ths but you see the shots outside the car and get a ln idea of his speed. He was going legitimately fast. I love it so much.

I witnessed Hans Stuck and Hurley Haywood rip up Laguna Seca in the IMSA version of the Quattro ! The times were faster than an Indycar at that time. The sound is so impressive, nothing has compared since.

These engines sound fabulous. However, the engine position in the description should be "far front", and that's why these cars look like swingers having the front axle as a pivoting point for both turning and weight transfer.

@@HillClimbMonsters Nah don't get me wrong... they're awesome regardless. That "far front" engine position gives them that stance and swinging motion when they turn, when they accelerate hard out of a corner, and so on, and this makes them unique and awesome in several aspects.

Wonderful video, so many questions. One for start. I see almost none sponsors, and given it cannot be cheap build, how do you choose chasis/platform like Audi Quattro? What is reason behind it and what are alternatives at that price range? If anyone can share I would be grateful.

Very few engines sound as good as the audi inline 5 with that blowoff valve.

Turbo flutter doesn't come from a blow-off valve. The flutter comes from the air that was compressed by the turbocharger, forcing it's way back out of the turbo through the blades. Every 'stu' is the sound of pressurized air getting chopped up by the turbine.

It can be argued that weight distribution doesn't matter as much for an AWD than it does say for a RWD it might even help mitigate understeer. Even if that's not the case, the track record of the Audi Sport Quattro speaks for itself.
