Did the math: Using a stopwatch, I timed each lock from the moment a tool entered to the moment it opened. By my timing, it took him about 25 seconds to open all the locks. The video is 3 minutes and 13 seconds, which equates to 193 seconds. This means that only about 13% of the video contained him actually picking the locks, with the average time per lock was about 3.12 seconds With that, that means he could, theoretically, pick about 54 more locks than he did in the same time as this video.

They're definitely not the most expensive. An actual secure and well designed lock will be quite a bit more expensive. Locks that are cheaper than a master lock probably ain't any better (oftentimes they use similar designs, and that's if they're not downright knockoffs of master locks). But, since Master locks are everywhere, the average people think they are an authority as far as locks goes

So, after watching your channel for a few months, I got a 141, like in the video. I’ve had a lot of fun picking it, and I actually realized that there is another bypass that wasn’t mentioned in the video. From what I gather, I believe it is missing a shielding plate at the end of the keyway, meaning you can simply push the locking lug aside with a simple pick. LPL always says that we should leave a comment if we have something to say, and this seemed appropriate.

It's Dembo as someone who is fascinated by lock picking and has occasionally picked locks (for fun) I can say that this doesn’t entirely destroy their company. It hurts their reputation but at the end of the day locks are a deterrent. I assure you that if given the task of getting into someones house, car, and safe, I could easily do all of those things with advanced tools or even some very basic ones if given a little planing. Locks are never an assured safety but very few want to take the time to actually break into someones house by picking a lock if someone else just left their door open.

@@TheIrishFoley well I can tell you aren't someone who knows locks. I like picking locks because it is a puzzle of sorts, I never have stolen nor attempted to pick a lock without the permission of the one who owns it. And I don't need to know about business for my comment to be justified, if you think your locks are safe (house, car, etc) you are very mistaken. Anyone with a set of tools and a bit of knowledge could get into a house by picking locks; and hell even get in by just breaking a window. Locks are never designed to be completely safe, they are a deterrent. Now will this hurt their reputation? yes absolutely (this was implied in my comment from before). They will suffer some losses from having these flaws present in their locks. However it doesn't change the fact that most people in order to break into a lock need the knowledge/tools to do so. Because of that, the business won't be completely ruined by this. On a separate note, how do you think most lockpickers start out? Do you think all of them are thieves? Do you think the owner of this channel started out as a thief? Before you casually assume that someones actions are nefarious perhaps you should do some research or maybe just ask them. (Or you could always use common sense to determine that I wouldn't make a comment like that if I was a thief...)

I think I may have made this comment before but I remember in my early years of locksmithing (I technically am no longer a locksmith I have moved into another industry many years ago and only follow along at this point) that locks are typically designed with a bypass method that was intended to only be shared among locksmiths. I remember this particularly from automobiles where the focus of training was more often manipulating the lock from within the door than the keyway. We had quite a few secret tools for quite a few different locks and that’s one of the reasons I left, with every model year there were new tools to buy . But back in those days these were trade secrets and it was not permissible to make them public in anyway such as this. But back then lockpicks and tools were not something that just anybody could buy either. Eventually we started seeing jimmy bars in the open market and now all of the tools of the trade can be found at flea markets, So today this type of video is important because these manufacturers don’t seem to realize their secrets are out.
@TWX1138
@TWX1138 5 жыл бұрын
Counter argument, my FIL was never a licensed locksmith, but he regularly worked on locks for-pay for people in the 1960s, and had fabricated many of his own tools both for conventional repinning and for bypass and entry. He was never part of any fraternity, guild, or clique to share these bypasses with, he either figured them out on his own or he learned of them from other nonprofessionals. There is nothing special about these flaws. The flaws exist because either they were not realized prior to manufacture, or because the manufacturer didn't think that these flaws would affect sales/profits. Unfortunately the manufacturers have not yet accounted for the massive increase in hobbyist and amateur video that the Internet has fostered, and quite literally no flaw will remain secret once it's discovered. These flaws were not introduced specifically to help locksmiths, they were merely exploited by locksmiths and those locksmiths had to individually choose not to divulge them.

Just like the cryptography debate, any sort of bypass WILL be found and WILL be abused. Any bypass in a lock inherently weakens security period and is bad design.

To be fair and in counter argument to, all of the people who want to say that LPL is breeding a generation of Thieves. I say, that thieves do not generally watch thousands of hours of lock picking videos. because they're not interested in it. All they care about is what they get afterwards. The money, the drugs. The people who actually care about this trade and are interested about it, are in my opinion 99% good people.
