The tank guard screwed your tank. Water got in there and she rusted a hole. Chevy tanks are a pain in the ass. Lol

Yeah probably held wet sand and dirt against the tank.

How many gallons is the gas tank?

Probably be a better idea to pour out the fuel into a can, filter it, rather than potentially taint the new tank with dirt and debris.

Old tank looked spotless inside and gas looked clean as well. But that is a good idea.

Only reason I mentioned it is I have to do the same thing, this coming week and I have an almost full tank!!! I am replacing my tank with an OEM tank from Fitech with in-tank pump to feed my Fitech go efi 4 due to a fuel command centre failure. Luckily, the tank was out just a couple of months ago to finish the build. Watching your video refreshed my memory of the key parts of the process, which benefits me greatly as we will not be taking off the bed. Thank you very much for posting!

Should've just poured the fuel out and strained it, and bought a new sending unit. Just a thought cause putting a old ass unit back in doesn't make sense.

Tack Welded the bolts to the bed.

wow double failure the gas tank and muffler blown indicates a failure in the catalytic converter. if its something in the engine to cause the converter to fail and break apart in turn backfired and finished the rusty muffler off. i seen emersoncollie's video his muffler blown out from a backfire on his 1951 studebaker commander land cruiser. as he put on a true dual exhaust. on the 232 v8 its got sounds good. as the glasspacks are solid shell mufflers. or a heavy guage stainless turbo style muffler. a true dual on your truck need 2 cats, mufflers and a shop to bend the pipes.
