I have finally had to accept that I am a maximalist. I’ve never seen a bare space that I didn’t want to decorate. I like a mix of colors and eccentric accents and big accessories. I’ve tried hard to be a minimalist-I find the look extremely sophisticated-but alas, I am not extremely sophisticated. I do live in terror of the day I have to stage my house to sell. . . .
@valeriemelendez5860 Жыл бұрын
I feel the same way… everytime i declutter, the space needs something big or decorated but never bare… even when i look at my ceilings i want big sheer drapes to hang where the ceiling is high. Im tired of everything especially white baseboards… what’s wrong with me lol

I'm the same ! I always think play safe and stick to neutral bare walls , minimilism is easier to clean etc . But NO it's not me . I always walk past this house where its black windows and a bright orange door with lovely lighting and I think I would love look inside that house. I also worry about having to re sell !

I had a tiff with my house painter as he kept insisting I paint my walls grey and not to re-hang back my antique paintings. How dare he, a man who obviously not have any taste whatsoever tell me what to do with MY House. He even egged my husband on about not hanging any art as it makes it difficult for him to paint next time. Am still furious.

Yup, proud maximalist here too, I call my style Botiki, a combo Bohemian, tiki and oddities...fireplace wall is black, trim and fireplace are white with another accent wall color of Terra cotta, Moroccan Sky. Lots of vintage rattan furniture, animal prints and taxidermy, plus my own watercolors of birds framed in vintage clock cases on mantel...an antique dealer, I'm surrounded by treasure...but I want to have fun with it...so let's walk through the atrium doors to my tiki bar...time for a cocktail and more design scheming, right...it never ends!

I've ALWAYS been a " Maximimilst ", and I'm in my late 60's.....who knew....?! This " style " did not have a name attached to it decades ago. ...to me, it was just normal to have a home reflect ones personality and embrace things that you want in your home, what you like. And I dont mean ' cluttered ' , I am talking about collections, books ( 400 books) ...I like unique things, like certain kinds of lamps. I love fringe. I don't care for all the overly bright tones, mine are softer , but I have quite a mix of colour going on . I adore various shades of green and even though the majority of my large pieces are ' neutral ' ,I have a lovely secretary desk in a beautiful shade of green. Throw pillows in the same hue. I like colour in rugs, Accessories, and so on.

I'm a maximalist. I'm in my 80's. It's a wonderful style. I'm french provincial with the 'newer' accents of fur throws and lots of leopard print rugs and pillows. Bookcases of books, a collection of suitcases, and a few busts of Romans. And it all goes smoothly one to the other. I use muted tones though. What fun!

I definitely have a Maximalist house. It is probably a lot tamer than some of the homes you showed here. I do love the jewel-toned spaces the most. I wasn't quite that brave. My main space, the great-room is yellow walls with red, green and a bit of blue. It is bright and so cheerful! It makes me happy all the time and when people come into the space, they often comment on how beautiful it looks. I call my style English Cottage. It has those elements, with the jam packed eye candy that is Maximalist. There are many vintage collections which I love to shop for. Especially thrifted.

I prefer to call it VISUAL ABUNDANCE. I crave it! I don’t think you properly represented it here though. It isn’t necessarily about crazy colors. It’s about having out all the ‘things’ that you love. I must be a Maximalist then... but I don't do gaudy or bold... I don't mix fabrics & prints... and I don't do clashing colours... The colours I bring into my home have to compliment the space even down to any fresh flowers. I consider my taste tasteful, but there's little wall space left! So I have to pick? Most too OTT for my liking & the colours far too busy, so if I HAD to choose - 6:10 with 7:15 a close 2nd!

I love this style! I just wondered if there are rules on how many colours on your walls? Is it still two? With plants, textures and artwork to break it up? Also wooden floors with rugs? I`ve had a go in my study but it`s tricky to achieve this look if you have built in units rather than freestanding natural elements. Because there`s limited furniture it`s not easy to add soft furnishings eg cushions and throws to soften it. Any advice for me? Thanks

My country home is eclectic and I guess maximalist “ a little”. Well anyway it is very cozy, comfortable and not boring. And I Love greens and fall colors. I just love design. I love changing things up too. I think there’s nothing worse than a home owner that leaves the same window curtains up for years or the same decor the same year after year no matter how much you love it. That gets too boring in my opinion. 👍🌺🍁🌸🌻🌷🏡🏡🏡🏠🏠🏠

The thing with maximalism is that it isn't a new style that you just adopt for 5-10 yrs. Maximalism has ALWAYS existed and will always exist. A true maximalist just "knows" and decorates accordingly. I've been a maximalist for over 30 yrs, and if you told me to "move on" to something new, I don't think I would or even could. The trick to maximalism is to ignore every style trend that comes along and just do what you want. Obey rules of scale, color, and use... but aside from that, just be your own unique self and flip off anyone who objects!

Some beautiful spaces. Curious if you noticed your commentary and images didn’t correspond to each other? Perhaps that was intentional. Just noticed when you were talking about gallery wall the images were of single pieces of art and a screen that filled a wall. When mentioning ginger jars or ceramic collections those great shots of the blue and white porcelain filling the console table wasn’t shown. Great content and a little tweaking would improve things.

Thank you for your feedback! You have brought up some really great ideas and I will definitely take notice of them from now on. Usually I will place all of the images in the video and then construct a script based off of that home decor style but you are absolutely right I think I will keep doing it that way but then take a look at it and if I have images that correspond to what I'm saying switch them up if that makes sense. I really really appreciate it! Any other helpful hints and tips you have I will gladly listen. 😂😂😂

Maximalism, where millennials exist, a label must be coined. It’s not new, it doesn’t need to be taught. Anyone who has the necessity of decorating creatively and sometimes on a budget, or loves to make their home a haven with collections, items with sentimental value and quirky finds, exist in this type of space. And guess what? You can absolutely mix pastels with jewel tones. Everything is placed aesthetically in the eye of the beholder. I grew up seeing my great grandmother, grandmas and parents decorate homes like this without much thought. I bring items into my house when I know there is a crowded niche of like items where it will blend well.
@RayaCeleste Жыл бұрын
I know I'm very late to this conversation, but I would like to add that I feel like a diagnosis of ADHD at 35 made me realize why I am a maximalist. Because if I cannot see it, I do not know I have it. I love the spaces that are clean and free of clutter but I would literally buy everything I want multiple times because I don't know exists😅.
@HomeDecor1011 Жыл бұрын
Your post is the story of my life. The odor that I get if I do not see it, I do not have it, which has resulted in me buying three and four of the same item! Yes to everything you just said!

Maximalism absolutely IS a lifestyle, because the majority of those rooms have so much stuff you'd spend all your waking hours cleaning it (unless you can afford a housekeeper). I think it can be fun, but not so much in tiny spaces where it can feel claustrophobic. Also, having a hefty budget helps because using bold, cheap items just looks like hoarding and would look gaudy more than chic.
@antoniatarnaroutskaya6401 Жыл бұрын
Second hand items are everywhere to chose from on a small budget. People giving stuff away daily on fb market place. Budget has not as much to do with as passion does.
