Those who call Disneys snow white a damsel in distress are wrong. She has had to survive abuse from her stepmom, almost being killed, running away and being alone, as well as spending most of her life as a slave. she has survived so much whilst also being kind to everyone she meets even the person who killed her. This ranks her much higher on mylist. She is my favourite princess and is an inspiration to anyone that being kind will get you far in life

Even though I prefer pinocchio, you can't deny the impact that Snow White had in animation history. But even ignoring it's cultural importance, the film is still very well done. With good looking animation that still holds up over 80 years later, and characters that (despite being relatively bland on paper) have fun and charming moments. It's clearly a film that Walt Disney had a lot of passion for and put a lot of effort into, this movie helped him go from the guy who made Mickey mouse to the guy who made his Mark in both animation history, AND American history in general.

Yes, it is a very important movie in film history, but for some reason a lot of modern idiots keep trying to find ways of claiming that it wasn't really a big deal (such as "it wasn't REALLY the first animated film"). Thanks for watching.

I think you missed a lot when it came to Snow White's character, her personality traits aren't just singing, cleaning and cooking, those are her hobbies. She's immensely hard working and doesn't want to make herself a burden on others, (great depression propaganda btw), she's incredibly kind hearted, as demonstrated when she's terrified in the woods and the animals get scared by her, she tells them that she's sorry that she scared them. She just got told that she can't return home, and to the place where she knows her prince will look for her because she was almost murdered, she is vulnerable and scared but still manages to have a positive outlook. She carries this positive view and this hope that things will eventually get better, she doesn't just go into their house and demand that she stays there, she helps out and does the work that the dwarves can't. She is a kindhearted and hard working individual, she cleans and cooks because they're important life skills and she enjoys to sing as a means to cope with her life. Not to mention it is hinted that she already knew the prince. He doesn't just say "now i've met the girl of my dreams", he says specifically "now that I've found you" which can be interpreted as (yay I found a woman to love) or that he has specifically looking for her, he passes by her castle probably because he's going there to find her. It's not too much of a stretch to say that they've met before, because they're both royalty. He also says that he has "one love ... constant and true" implying that these feelings have been carried for a longer time. You don't just say that your love is constant to someone you just met. Her running away from him at the start can be explained as her being ashamed of wearing the rags her stepmother forces her to wear in front of the man she loves. (Very humiliating). The princes lack of personality is because he isn't in the film other than to give the hopeful "fairytale ending" that would've inspired hope in the people of the time during the great depression. He is only there for the moral that having perseverance and resilience will achieve a happy ending, a message that would've been important to the people of the time and still is even in a modern context. Apparently he was meant to have more screen time where he was looking for snow white and got captured by the Queen, but that got cut to focus more on the dwarves. In those scenes he would've found out about the magic she used and that would've justified the kissing a dead girl thing, but that got cut cause it "wasn't that important" but I would've preferred to see more of him because his actor's voice is so gorgeous. While I enjoyed your video the only flaw I really saw was within your assessment of Snow White's character. It's really annoying to see actually inspiring women's characters being simplified because they don't conform with the modern values. The older princesses were always an important part in my life growing up, because they taught me the importance of being kind and helping others. They also taught me the importance of working hard, and trying to stay positive within dark times of life (though I can't say I applied that too well with my depression whelp). But yeah I hate seeing the old princesses get bashed on because no Becky they're not some misogynistic sexist reflection of an old time, maybe if you actually had critical thinking skills you'd realise that. I'd like to point out that the people over the years have seemed to have twisted Snowhites character a LOT. The make her seem like she's a horrible influence on young girls, why? because she wants to get married...that's it. I get that they want their daughters to know that they have other options besides being a wife and mother but that's not really a bad thing? The whole point of Snowhites character is that she teaches how far kindness can get you. She was kind to the huntsman offscreen which demotivated him from killing her and warned her instead, she was kind to the animals so they helped her out of the woods, she was kind to the dwarves which caused them to love her so much that they willing to HUNT DOWN AND BRUTALLY KILL her murderer. And considering how pissed they looked when chasing after her they DEFINITELY weren't planning on holding back. And finally it was her being kind to the prince that caused her to have her life back and to get her happy ending. Her wanting to get married wasn't her whole character nor was it sexist in the slightest. Moms will literally buy their daughters baby dolls and let them play house all of which shows them the "fun side" of being a mom and wife but suddenly when a cartoon princess has that as a small dream of hers it's sexist? Also keep in mind that Snowhite is 100% royal blood and has no siblings...getting married and having kids is kinda what's she's supposed to do- or else her kingdom has no future ruler- Sigh...but I know Disney is gonna listen to all those fake feminists and """fix""" Snowhite by turning her into a "#independent woman #don't need no man 🤪" which makes me sad cause id love to see more female characters like Snowhite, it seems like every strong female character is usually made to be badass and physically strong but there's nothing wrong with characters like Snowhite, because not all women are physically strong and can only offer a good heart which is ok. Snowhite have not have had the courage to punch, kick, or throw bad guys in jail but she's definitely strong in her own way. Because she doesn't kill with a knife, she kills with kindness ❤ tldr: Stop saying Snowhite is sexist plz and thank you

Snow White was DIsney's FIRST ANIMATED MOVIE. Animated movies weren't even a thing nor did they even have a category at the Oscars. The creators went all in and the dedication showed in how well detailed and smooth the animation was back then. As far as character complexity was concerned I suspect a simple fairy tale was the safer way to go at such an ambitious project at the time. (this is the 30s we're talking about here) Not to mention having the queen fall from the cliff and have the movie end with royal couple riding off was a much happier ending for audiences back then than the original ending for the story, where the queen is forced to wear red hot iron shoes and dance at Snow White's wedding until death.

I actually find the Queen's defeat to be one of the most unsatisfying villain defeats in the Disney canon. Her defeat is not the result of a protagonist learning a lesson, nor is it her own fault (like you suggest it is). She got defeated purely by chance, because a random bolt of lighting just HAPPENED to strike the right place at the right time. It'd be like if Scar died not because he betrayed the hyenas, but because a bit of the cliff just happened to crumble away beneath him and plunge him into the fire.

*Pros* • Most of the hand-drawn animation makes it feel like a Silly Symphony as it was made in the late 1930s (mainly on the Seven Dwarves, animals and the Evil Queen when she turned into an old lady who is actually strangely cute because of her cartoony design) • Snow White, while not the most complex or interesting Disney Princess (I mean, then again, before Anna and Elsa, they had very high standards, oh, wait! I don’t know about anyone else, but honestly, Moana is way less selfish than the Evil Queen and other villains… and heroes that deserve to be seen as too selfish to like), isn’t mean-spirited (by sending a bad message to women that they have to be a stereotype) and can actually be considered an active and ambitious girl in her own right (take that, Rachel Zegler and the rest of modern Disney!). • The Seven Dwarves themselves steal the show (take note, Wish, with your “tweens” that are supposed to represent better versions of the Seven Dwarves while failing miserably with no personality other than to be unlikeable or meh.) • Surrealism (what can I say? This is a movie by Walt Disney Animation Studios!) • The music (Hey-Ho in particular) • It’s a good movie, especially for its time! *Cons* • Prince Florian (not to be confused with the one from the masterpiece that is Super Mario Bros. Wonder), because he feels more like Prince Haru (and King Fret and Prince Pine but less “there” and more “here”… to be an outdated stereotype of princes like Haru and the original 1950 version of Prince Charming in Cinderella where we’re supposed to like them as the heroes but they’re actually cowards, so credit goes to the Mario Bros., for saving Princess Peach who is or used to be an actual example of an ungrateful damsel in distress that sets negative stereotypes for women unlike in the misunderstood 2023 movie, so no thanks to her either, at least at that time, for choosing Haru over either one of the Mario Bros. Again, this was years ago, it was in 1986, but just thought I’d point it out even though J digress) • Some of the music (“I’m Wishing”, do I even need to explain? And “Some Day My Prince Will Come”, and power to those that like it, which I’m sure there’s a lot of considering its reputation as one of Disney’s best love songs, but I think Snow White, if she wanted to date and marry a man, should go out with someone who is more respectful and attractive than Florian) • The rotoscoping didn’t age well. • Walt Disney Animation Studios has come a long way in the 1990s/Disney Renaissance (save for Pocahontas). • THE. UPCOMING. REMAKE. (as if we haven’t had enough remakes of Walt Disney Animation Studios, now Moana, the character and the movie, which I and many others think is better than you’d portray it as, will get a sequel and then a year later, a remake which will whitewash and therefore flanderize Moana, which just goes to show how creatively bankrupt Disney is getting, even with the Moana franchise).

I disagree about Snow White being boring. I don't think she's the best disney pricess and there are many others with better development, however her being just simple princess is not problem. Much like characters such as Superman and Captain America, Snow White is meant to be a embodiment of goodness, a character people look up and inspire to be. She's kind, happy go lucky and always tries to help those in need. She goes through some heavy stuff, being forced to runway from the queen, her stepmother, and hide in the forest, but, while she's afraid at first (as show in the scene in the forest), quickly puts herself together and try to be optimistic and find solution for her current situation, instead of falling into despair. It's those attributes that make her "The fairest of them all", something the queen belives is result of physical apperance instead of who the person is. Also the Queen doesn't manipulate Snow White in just 10 seconds. She's hesitant at first, but the queen plays her role of "frail old lady" and Snow White, being the kind person she is, end up falling, being unable to stand while others need her. It shows how the attributes that make her likable are also a weakness that can be exploit by villains like the Queen.
@puclopuclik4108 Жыл бұрын
It is posible to be good and realistic together. Cinderella is good example of it. She's good, kind, but still understands that she's being treated unfairly, and tries to be more proactive in her destiny. And yes it's OK to think about yourself first, when you have been nearly killed. Putting always others before yourself isn't sighn of goodness but low self-evaluation.
@alexandrefrauches132 Жыл бұрын
@@puclopuclik4108 It's the fact this character choose to still help others instead of themselves that makes them likable. It would be easy for them to just do what you said, to be selfish and priorize themselves first, but instead they don't let their problems stop them for trying to help those in need. It can be a flaw that can be used by villains, but it's also how this character prove themselves heroes and find their friends and allies. Your exemple about Cinderella is corret. She was kind but have her limits. But she never lack compassion as proven by the sequels in which she tries to help her stepsister Anastasia, because she belives that anyone deserve to find some happiness, even someone who mistreat her.
@puclopuclik4108 Жыл бұрын
@@alexandrefrauches132 you are confusing selfishness with positive self value. Snow White lacks self evaluation and is ignorant to the atmosphere in the kingdom. Having good characters requires to choose to be good with ability to be bad. Therefore Snow White isn't really good, because her purpose is to serve and to please whoever she's with. Let's look on it this way. If the evil queen wouldn't try to kill her, Snow White would continue to be her servant forever, trying to please the queen. Considering the kingdom should belong to Snow White ( inheritanceof her father ), she should care more how people are treated under the queen's reign. You can see the skeletons in the dungeon, the huntsman knows penalty for disobedience. Everyone knows the queen is evil, but Snow White is not choosing to do the right thing, she's choosing to be a servant until tyranny of her stepmother affects her personally as well. She's not good, she's simple.

I think one of the tricky bits of reviewing really old movies is that you can't really judge them by modern standards. If you do so, you kinda miss the original point. Only when you think back to the time when they were released and the events happening in the world at the time do things really start adding up as to why things are as they are. It doesn't have to be a power struggle, it can also be reliance and trust. If you marry a woman that is 100% in control of herself I feel sorry for you. If there is no need to rely on you as a controlling factor in her life, then what use are you as a provider? If you don't want to be a provider, then perhaps you need to marry a man.

@@Mzaleyao What's wrong with a woman being "100% in control of herself"?
@Mzaleyao Жыл бұрын
@@bluesira She knows what she wants, know all she needs, knows what's best for her, knows what's the best way to do whatever she does. Now, imagine if you happen to think, or God forbid even KNOW, otherwise and the chaos that would ensue. It's good to be a stable and reliable person, but perhaps we define control as different things. Imagine control as an extreme form of independence. It's good when you're someone that doesn't want or need anyone that complements your shortcomings. If you want to stay in control and don't let go of your lack of dependency when in a relationship then you're not in a relationship. At that point you've basically gotten a new toy to fiddle with and discard whenever you feel like and should probably expect the same treatment back. Would you not want a wife that is depending on you to be a good husband? Would you not want a husband that is dependable enough to focus on being a good wife?
@bluesira Жыл бұрын
@@Mzaleyao I do indeed think we have very different ideas of relationships. What you describe as an ideal sounds like unhealthy codependency to me. What I consider ideal sounds too casual to you. I don't think we're going to see eye to eye on this. I want a partner who is my equal. I feel like "control" over another person is a form of abuse.

That is actually false. The Art of Walt Disney book confirms that the Prince is actually 18 years old. Him being 31 is an ancient internet myth. That's not even stated or hinted at all in the film

Problem with this World today it's it's way TOO logical. No wonder Disney is in the mess it's in! And frankly it deserves it! Fairytales are not logical. They are fantasy! But people don't see that any more, only logical explanations that have to make sense. Very sad! I'm just glad I grew up with the original movies, as well as reading the books BEFORE Disney even took them and made them their own.

I think this movie is a masterpiece for the record, I just failed to make that clear in the video. I don't really care too much about its "problems" because they are very nitpicky and miss the point of the movie in the first place. Like I said, I failed to make that clear in this video.

I think you were missing a lot of points, and also didn't give clarifications for elements of its time and the fact it being one of really early animated movies. I think you tried too hard on making fun of it on certain parts rather than giving it a more proper reviews on some aspects. But keep it going

It's funny and sad how pissed people get when somebody critiques an old Disney movie with negative points. The movie is clearly a product of it's time, it was good for then, but now we have vastly more compelling main characters. Both male and female characters. I don't think this movie has much other than nostalgia and a few clips being entertaining. Otherwise it's just something to half-watch while snoozing on your bed or sofa. Mulan, Princess and The Frog, even The Little Mermaid are far more enjoyable. And if I were to include 3D animated princess movies, Tangled and Moana / Vaiana are modern classics.
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy Жыл бұрын
I think it's a bit better than that, but you are right about there being much better characters after this movie. One thing that does elevate this movie for me is not nostalgia, but simply the incredible execution of every scene, and the amazing soundtrack, animation, as well as the atmosphere of the film, which is quite good too.

Yeahhhh .... Walt Disney greatly improved the grimm's story ... Read the original fairy tale and try to find one ONE! character trait that Snow White has .... You won't find any ...The Grimm's writing across all of their works is very flimsy ,they were good writers ,not as good as others like Hans Cristian Andersen ... At least Snow White's kindness IS demonstrated though out the film ,In the book she's just a moron ... Walt Disney's early films ( especially the princess ones ) had surprisingly good pacing ,I can't analyze it here cause it'll take me as long as writing a book to explain everything ... For Snow White and Aurora ( her character is the weakest because many ideas they had for her ended up being scraped due to time and money issues ...Asides the impossible material of La Belle a bois Dormant being turned into a good film is Herculean task itself due to the story being empty ... The 1959 film proves Walt's and his crew's Genius ..For it's the only film that has managed successfully to adapt this story ... Adaptations of Snow White Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty after Walt's adaptations were heavily influenced based on Walt Disney's re-tellings ... As for the romance aspect ,all of the prince's were intended to have more time with the heroins and more character but a lot of ideas were cut and re arranged due to lack of experience with animating the human male form,money and time restrictions ... Snow White and Aurora have waaaay more personality in the Disney films than they even had in their written forms ...Cinderella has a very different personality and arc to her book counterpart Cendrillon ...But she still maintains the spirit of the character and her kindness ...The romance aspect of those three films are meant to be viewed though the eye lenses of a child ... They had production issues which greatly effected the final product ...Could it have been better ,yes ...Under different circumstances we'd have very different films ,but for now let's appreciate the one's we have ....I know their source materials very well from their content to their underlying meanings and messages ,and I can confidently assure you that Walt Disney's version are the best film adaptations of those stories we have ... Ever After IS a product of Walt Disney's Cinderella ,it followed the Disney version much closer than it did the Perraeult's story ,though it had two nodes to it ( the slippers being made for an extra material asides glass,and the older sister being way meaner and the younger being a bit kinder
