850nm vs 940nm Infra-Red Lighting

We are often asked ‘what is the performance difference between 850nm and 940nm Infra-Red lighting?’ We answer your question with this video.
All cameras are most sensitive to 850nm Infra-Red, delivering superior CCTV footage at night. 940nm delivers virtually invisible covert lighting but does result in reduced performance (typically up to 40% less) and requires a very sensitive camera.

This doesn't really compare IR lights, it just calibrates the sensitivity of the specific cameras you're using... Agree however that any camera with a silicon-based pickup will drop off rapidly above the 750-850 range

My dashcam does not see 850 unless aimed at it. It uses 940. Dispute the claim that all cameras are more sensitive to 850. My 940 equipe wildlife camera is the same.

Around 5-10W depending on your camera or light setup it could also be around 20W

You don't say what camera was used,how would the 850nM lights perform with ,for example, the Canon XF105 ,205 or a modified DSLR and what power requirements do the illuminators need would a 12V battery run the smaller lights ?for filming out to about 50m with wide dispersion 90 to 120 degrees?

I just bough a p1s 0540. It's a cheap nvd but good enought for my purpose (airsoft). My priority is not give away my presence with a 850nm iluminator, so i will prefer a 940nm regardless of image quality, my question is a 940nm will work at all with my device?

5 watt 850nm. Or just get the Andoer square infrared light, it’s more even and looks better on video.

I'm looking for a supplemental ir illuminator to brighten up a section of my yard not illuminated by my existing ir cctv camera, widespread rather than spotlight. Which 850nm illuminator did you use in this video, it looks like it would serve my purposes?

You would need some sort of flood light as a single IR LED wouldn't work too well, and depending on your yard size, you may need 15W to 20W lighting.

Infrared lights are quite a bit like LEDs, so it's probably around 2000mAh if you're willing to use 10W LEDS.

IR is invisible. Not green or red but IR leds usually emit weak red light.

There's not too much of a difference between those two, unlike 940 and 850

La 940nm est invisible à l'oeil nu alors que la 850nm est un vrai sapin de noël qu'on voit très bien. Donc pour la discrétion, forcément c'est la 940nm, alors que pour la distance et si vous vous en fichez qu'on voit les led, c'est la 850nm. Ce serait bien que tout soit dit sur ce genre d'image idiote qui ne montre qu'un seul côté du produit alors qu'il y en a un autre très important.

@D R J'ai plusieurs appareils en 940nm, et franchement, même dans le noir personne ne vois rien. Donc peut être en regardant de près et directement la led... Sinon, là les 850nm c'est du grand n'importe quoi pour la discrétion.
