Hey Russ, thanks for the video. Im looking for a torch (or any alternatives) for my scope with a range up to 1500meters. Do you have any recommendations?
@RussDouglas2222 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, hmm I don't believe there are any IR torches with that kind of range. 😳 850nm IR torches are more effecient working with digital IR scopes, but for scanning beyond 400m (in the example of the LL Nightsabre Wraith VCSEL) I'd use a good thermal spotter. Hope this helps? Cheers. Russ

Hi Russ. You understand VCSEL lasers for Pard very well. Can you tell me: How much less noticeable is the light source on the Solaris SRX to handcuffs than the original lamp on the Pard 007 (first series). I think that the original lamp on Pard is much more noticeable ??? The problem is that I can't buy a good 940nm VCSEL in my country, and I can buy a Solaris SRX. Is it less noticeable than a Pard lamp when set to the same power and visibility as a Pard lamp (for example 2 power levels and the strongest zoom ) Thank you very much in advance for your response. Cheers. Ivan
@RussDouglas2223 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivan, sorry I don't have a Solaris SRX or an IR power meter, so can't directly answer this; I'm afraid you'll have to test this with your local vermin. I can say using an add-on IR torch will definitely increase the Pard's battery life, and I love using any IR torch with a discreet LED power indicator and a stepless rotary power switch. Both features help you to only use the minimum IR necessary to see your prey, which is ideal. Hope this helps, cheers. Russ

Happy to help! 👍 Aye there's a version of the Black Sun with 940nm, and a 940nm pill for the Ludicrous Lumens Dark Sabre Wraith. Just be aware the 940nm is 25% less efficient, so shorter range or not as bright. Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ

Russ thank you very much for doing this review. I still don't understand much ir led flashlight, ir laser, you can help me by recommending a night vision with a flashlight and also the laser. It is to look at the sky at night. Thanks Russ
@RussDouglas2223 жыл бұрын
Hi there, you surely don't need an IR torch (whether LED or VCSEL) to shine skywards, as they will not illuminate the sky, in fact the IR light will only reflect back off any moisture in the air, spoiling the view. 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers. Russ

@@RussDouglas222 Thanks, I was thinking of buying a flashlight, confirmed not necessary. I understood it by watching the video that it is only to illuminate, but not to the sky. I will buy a 850nm night viewer is stronger and the night viewer model that I like. Ufology

Thanks for the good video. Regarding the larger 3x lens for the wraith, it is the same as on the Sirius XTL. Does anyone know, who makes these lenses? They are obviiusly not made for torches but for some night vision device. Thanks.

Thanks Alex and thanks for watching. Bruce knows and we've had this conversation before, way back when I first asked him about these torches with their protective rubber caps and cautionary text. So I'll ask him again for you and report back... 👍 All the best, cheers. Russ

Ps. Bruce replied... "The lenses are/were made for various Yukon NV devices, but I don't think Yukon themselves are the manufacturer. The guys making IR illuminators like Clive Ward, Ludicrous Lumens, Solaris, Sirius etc, have clearly found one or manufacturers for these lenses." Sorry we can't be more specific, but I hope this helps. Cheers. Russ

@@RussDouglas222 I sent a mail to Andy and wait for a reply. It seems they are out of office returning the 4th of january. The 3x lens is giving the best wide view illumination in my experience. But only with the Ledil Strada diffusor on top of the VCSEL. Bruce was so kind to send me a link to that diffusor in the night vision forum. Without diffusor you have a darker area in the center. Hi Russ, great video, thanks very much. You have text on screen at 10 minutes saying as always I've corrected the Pard footage from 16:9 to 4:3. I am looking at either the Pard NV007 or the Sytong HT-66 and saw a side by side comparison of them on a German video titled "Sytong HT-66 vs Pard NV007a Test & Vergleich 13 Vorteile HT-66 zu NV007 - Neuheit 2021 von 5m - 500m" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6HZZqqld7Caa9U) The footage there at about the 2min50s mark seems to show round rolls of paper looking distinctly oval on the Pard. I thought it was just an editing error, but when I saw your text on screen it's got me wondering. Is the footage recorded by the Pard just 4:3 stretched out to 16:9 or does it record properly in 1080p with round things looking round? All the other footage I've seen from Pards looks right in 1080p, but maybe everyone is reformatting it before uploading? Just asking before I part with my hard earnd cash! Thanks again, your videos have been really helpful as I start my journey into night vision. Drew
@RussDouglas2222 жыл бұрын
Hi Drew (thanks for the link, I'll look at that vid when I have time), all Pards have 4:3 eyepiece displays but during recording the raw footage is annoyingly stretched to 16:9. I seem to be the only Pard user bothered by this 🤷🏻♂️ but I always correct the raw 1,920x1,080 footage back to 1,440x1,080 (4:3), so car tyres are circular again and pests don't look overweight. 🤭🤣 I'm still hoping/waiting for a firmware update to offer the option to record in 4:3... 🤞 Cheers. Russ
@saint85412 жыл бұрын
@@RussDouglas222 Hi Russ, thanks for your speedy reply. That's really odd, I can't imagine why they would stretch the picture out, how annoying! I've been looking at other comparison videos and the Pard's footage always seems to be stretched and in 16:9 and the Sytong is in 4:3, but the Sytong also claims a video resolution of 1080p, so something doesn't seem to add up there, either the resolution or the apsect ratio must be wrong. Have you ever tried connecting the HDMI output or using the wi-fi to view the picture on your phone? I wonder what aspect ratio that comes out as. I'm asking because I'm going to use it attached to a spotting scope to record footage of nocturnal wildlife in our garden, so having the picture look right is perhaps more important to me than if I was shooting with a rifle rather than a camera! Pard don't seem to have fixed it on the NV007S, and I can't find any footage from the NV007V online yet, but I assume it'll be the same. Maybe I should just get the Sytong and hope for the best. Have you ever tried a Sytong? I don't see why the NV019 footage can be 16:9 when the more expensive models aren't. I was put off by the lower resolution eyepiece and the faff of the extra lens so my tired old eyes can see the screen clearly, but maybe I should have another look at it. Thanks again. Drew
@RussDouglas2222 жыл бұрын
@@saint8541 Hi Drew, well the Pards are definitely 1080p, but always stretched upon recording, via every one I've tried and everyone else's KZbin footage. I asked Garry at @Wolverine Vermin Shooting, but he was more put-off by the black sidebars after de-stretching it back to 4:3, so he preferred the distorted 16:9 footage. You're the first person I've spoken-to who also wants the recordings to be correct ratio / 1:1 (i.e. 4:3 ratio) as viewed. Nope I've never tried a Sytong, but I'd definitely have a look through one and at the raw recorded footage before buying one. Let me know how you get on. Cheers. Russ

@@RussDouglas222 Hi Russ, it baffles me that no one else seems bothered by it, it would drive me nuts. As you said, once you see it you can never not see it! Surely that would be an easy software update fix, but then again, maybe you and I are the only ones who care. I've emailed Sytong to confirm their recording, HDMI and WiFi output ratios, so I'll see whether they reply. I'll email Pard to see what their HDMI and WiFi output resolution is as well and I'll let you know what comes back from them both. I've been watching all your past Pard videos, thanks for all the time and effort that goes in to them, they're very thorough and informative. I've just a couple more questions if I may continue to pester you a bit longer: In your NV019 unboxing and early issues video I was looking at the footage of a car in the driveway near the end trying to decide if the 16:9 picture was stretched like the other Pards or not. To me it looks okay, but I'm not familiar enough with that model of car to be sure. Is the NV019 the only one that doesn't stretch things or have my eyes gone wonky from too much youtube? And lastly, as I really want the recorded picture to look natural, and also really like the 1x magnification available on both the NV019 and 12mm NV007, does the extra resolution of the eyepiece in the NV007 make it a big jump in quality or more of a subtle improvement? 800x600 sounds awfully small but we're spoiled with quad HD screens in phones these days so on a tiny screen is there much difference to the eye between them? Thanks again for all your help Drew
@RussDouglas2222 жыл бұрын
@@drewpaul9 Welcome to my world!! Yep after reviewing the 019 video (to remind myself) I see no distortion there, but correcting it's fairly easy so no worries there. I don't think there's a significant downside to 800x600, I'm still using my 008LRFs which are 800x600 and have no urge to 'upgrade' to the newer P models, just don't see a benefit. I'm a firm believer in 'if it ain't broke...' :o) Cheers. Russ

@@brianseeney1364 I'm always my own strongest critic, but have no time to remake anything...
