The best story about the 2007 Red Sox World Series. The Yankees thought signing Damon from the Red Sox would be like grabbing Boggs or Clemens. Under the old compensation rules the Red Sox got the Yankees #1 pick and a sandwich pick. Those players? Jon Lester and Jacoby Elsbury. Both key in winning the 2007 World Series. Have to see who the Red Sox drafted for the Jacoby Elsbury Yankee signing. The gift that keeps on giving.
@kevaninthe41356 жыл бұрын
Jon Lester was drafted by the Sox in 2002. Jacoby Ellsbury was drafted in 2005. Damon was still a Red Sox so your compensation story is not correct.

Fake news. The Red Sox got Clay Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Craig Hansen and Jed Lowrie in the 2005 draft, two of them were from losing Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe. The Yankees signed Damon after the 2005 season and the Sox didn't receive any compensation.

One thing I have to ask the uploader is why are comments allowed on this vid but not the others, especially after the ALCS vids? Obviously this show was originally broadcasted 17 years ago but if I could call back then I'd have corrected Mike on one thing. They got Schilling on Thanksgiving BEFORE the A-Rod drama unfolded in January/February. Mike said if they got A-Rod they wouldn't have gotten Schilling but that's not true, Schilling was already there. Also Mad Dog says if the Cards had won Game 1 it would have been a different series....not really. Schilling, Pedro and Lowe didn't give up an earned run in Game's 2-4 so the Cards would have been down 3-1 and dead meat by that point anyway. If the Sox were afraid of Wakefield pitching Game 5 after his Game 1 dud they would have started Arroyo. Even if they won Game 1, the Cards had no chance. Lastly, they were talking about the Sox home opener coming up the following season where they were going to raise the banner in the Yankee's faces. Not only did Jeter NOT go into the clubhouse, he made the entire team stand and watch them do it in the dugout because they were doing it to other teams for years and it was their turn to take the L. I'll always respect Jeter for that.
