It was nice of Mike and Chris to have a guy (Imus) on who saw the Red Sox win in 1918.

To the Yankees credit they all stood up on the top step and enthusiastically applauded the Sox when the Pennant was raised. Vet classy and respectful..In the home opener 05

That was Jeter's call. They were in the clubhouse and Jeter said to go out and take the L like men.

One of the amazing things about how the Yankees came back to beat the Red Sox for the division in 2005 was how they did it. They signed Randy Johnson who went 5-0 against Boston that year including a crucial game on 9/11 where he beat Tim Wakefield 1-0 at Yankee Stadium, and they brought back Tino Martinez. However how they REALLY beat the Sox was during the season. Kevin Brown was sent packing and the Yankees called up Chien-Ming Wang who went 8-5 after his late April call-up, signed Al Leiter at the All-Star Break who went 4-5, traded for Shawn Chacon at the deadline who went 7-3 and brought up Aaron Small just before the deadline who went 10-0. That's 29 wins from guys that were not on the Opening Day roster, 21 of them after July 15. Even though they lost to the Angels, the fact Cashman spun circles around Theo in 05 should be applauded.

Cashman by no means spin circles around Theo in 2005. Maybe in 2006 you could say that. But 2005 the Yankees won the division by one game. And Schilling missed half the season in 2005.

@@williamkanejr3233 Even in 2005. The Sox did almost nothing to add to the team during the season and it shows when they faded in September. If it wasn't for the wild card, 05 would have been another epic choke to the Yankees

@@KHayes666 with Schilling missing half the season, Foulke physically and mentally out of it in 2005, it’s a wonder the Red Sox were even in it in 2005 to begin with. 2005 was hardly a choke. And if it wasn’t for the wild card, you’d have had to play another winner take all game. Maybe you win that maybe you don’t. But that’s not a choke. 2006 you can call a choke when you went into Boston and took five straight. THAT would qualify as a choke.

@@williamkanejr3233 2005 was a choke, the Sox had a 5 game lead with 21 to play and had to settle for the wild card. They weren't going to beat Chicago anyway but winning the AL East meant getting Anaheim at home in the division series who the Sox dominated in October. Theo got outmanaged by Cashman and Francona didn't help by starting Mueller and Millar over Youkilis and Olerud in September. The only reason the Sox made the playoffs were Ortiz and Wakefield the last month.

I just watched the video of Red Sox fans giving a standing ovation to Mariano on opening day 2005 - I just thought he handled that with so much class!

Hardly. Johnson was 5-0 against the Red Sox that year including the 9/11 game where he beat Tim Wakefield 1-0 in Yankee Stadium. What cost the Yankees 05 is also how they got there. Shawn Chacon & Aaron Small combined to go 17-3 that season and remember Small had pitched in exactly 8 games between 99-04 prior. Small got hammered in Game 3, if they win that game then it doesn't come down to Johnson no-showing Game 5.

In the 18 years since ending the curse (from 2004 to 2022) the Red Sox won 4 World Series (2004, 2007, 2013, 2018) to Yankees one (2009). So the curves lives on for NY
