Well folks, this is my 200th KZbin video and I thought I would share some information on my favorite knife pattern, the Stockman. Hope you enjoyed it.

You stated that you were unsure if "they" actually Spayed animals anymore... I'd guess that in many locations, "They" now use a hired veterinarian to mitigate loss. I remember being 'Sent to the farm' for the summer in the late 1960 and mercilessly put to work "learning" how things got done (at least back then!) Yeah, I got to watch my Grandfather turning Young Bulls into Young Steers with a Spey blade and alcohol soaked gauze. His Brother raised pigs, so yeah, I got to witness him spey a few piglets too! All that before I even reached double digits in age... I remember hearing that anywhere from 6% to 10% was expected loss from this manual process, but it was still cheaper than hiring a Vet who may or may not even show up as expected! It doesn't sound funny today, but I remember asking why it was cheaper, and Grampa replied "A dead pig doesn't eat so much..."

We still use the spey blade to castrate animals with. My brother and I used to grow feeder pigs (we also worked on calves and horses sometimes) and we always carry stockman knives to use on them. I'm too old to really do much now, but I still get called out to do some work on other people's animals occasionally. Thanks for the very good informational video, I enjoyed it.

you know it's funny how murky the history gets with these patterns and in a way it adds to the legend and charm. I was told by a friend of my grandfather years back as a boy that the Stockman was called that because it was popular with "Stock Men" in General Stores and Butcher Shops it made sense so i never questioned it, funny only now do i find out he was wrong lol

My favorite pattern because of the versatility of the three blades. I often prefer this pen blade as a secondary blade in place of the Spey blade.

Thank you for showing your Stockman collection! I really like Stockman pattern knives, but my favourite pattern is the Congress! I'm currently collecting Congress pattern knives but combining it with Stockman's, too. I'm very grateful for the knowledge you imparted, as there were things I didn't know even after over 50 years of collecting! That's the thing about knife collecting-it never gets old! Reminds me of the days when you could actually buy pocket knives from your local newsagent! Yes, we used to be sensible here in the UK, at one time-hard to believe isn't it! 🤣😂 I'm only a recent subscriber to your channel but I'm enjoying it immensely. Thank you for your time. This year my chrismas gift will be a classic three bladed stockman, made by Robert Klaas in Solingen, under the Bertram Hen and Rooster branding. Stag Handles, 10cm hadle, around 7cm clip point blade. Purchased at the shop in their factory. Gorgeaus old building from 1908. In 1935 the street in front of the workshop was kalled Robert Klaas Street for 100 Years of company history. In 1935. Crazy. Felt like a timetravel and with only 40 Km from home something I will be doing way more often! Got an outstanding deal there, especially considering that I couldn't find a stokman my Klaas anywhere online and the had like 10 different ones there.

You mentioned using mineral oil. Do you use this exclusively when you lubricate/store them? Does it work well for all steel types?

Yes I just use mineral oil when I store them. The main reasons are because it's inexpensive and food safe. It seems to work well with all steel types but I make sure my carbon steel blades have a good coating as they are more prone to rust than stainless steel.

My dad always carried schrade stockman I now have 14 n.o.s usa made stockman Just holding them brings back memories.

Nice collection of stockman knives . I have quite a few myself. years ago I was buying and selling knives as a pastime, then I got a security job and that took all my time. Most of my Americana made knives are gone but I find the Chinese old timers very good for the price. Case knives are a little pricey for my collecting , I've had a few but they were sold. Thanks for this informative video, I enjoyed it.

Thank you for very informative video. I'd wish the resolution would be better, but still excellent. When I get a stockman knife I will use the main blade for food preparation (that's where I usually need a long blade), pen blade as utility blade and the sheepsfoot blade would separate my food preparation blade from utility blade and remain razor sharp for emergencies.

Nice collection you have there. My main interest is the Whittler pattern but I do have a several Stockman pattern knives in my collection also. Interesting to hear the history behind the pattern.

You have good taste in knives, the whittler pattern is one of the hardest knives to build, so your getting some real craftsmanship there. I had to get at least one for my collection (GEC) and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for this video. I very much enjoyed the historical introduction, The video is also quite timely for me as I am looking at getting a Stockman. It is good to get an overview of the options in a single video. BTW, I am leaning toward a Camillus. I recently got a Mil-K 'Demo' knife as a companion to my Camillus #1 Hawkbill. A large Camillus Stockman would nicely complete the trinity... I particularly liked your green Delrin handled knife. The one made by Camillus for Remington. In fact, I'm off to watch the video on that knife, right now! ciao, fm.

Your videos are great . The Old Timers and the Uncle Henry's are a long time favorite of mine . I pretty much have all the bases covered for Stockmans in those two lines . Another I have in the Old Timer line is the Muskrat and it looks just like a stockman . It's the same frame as the large stockman I believe . The old Schrade stuff was under rated in my opinion just because it was a more affordable line of knives than say like the Case stuff . It looks like the appreciation for them is now growing though since Schrade USA is now a thing of the past . I'll be getting my first Case stockman delivered in a couple days . I hope it's up to snuff . Out of all the Schrade Stockmans I have none of them have any blade rub , so Schrade had the stockman mastered . Hoping my Case that's coming can say the same thing . Again , great video . Cheers .

Yeah, I keep the pen/Spey as a ‘scalpel’ and use the main blade for everyday stuff! I’ve a few Stockmans, but nothing like your collection.

My favorite is the Case 6318, I love the long clip. But I also carry the large stockman 6375 quite often in my RF pocket.? All yours seem to unused, I use all of mine as I am an accumulator not a collector.

I love the stockman knife, it's my favorite knife pattern, started out with Case medium stockman 63032 cv, but its so small that im always afraid of losing it, so i got the Case 6375 Jumbo stockman 😄 now that knife i love, currently waiting for my Case 3375( yellow delrin ) yella to arrive... I have Buck 301 & 303 and 371 too, but i prefer the Case knives better since the Buck's two secondary blades are so thick behind the edge that they don't really serve no purpose imo.

I have a S&W Stockman! It was made by Taylor, I've had since 2007. Some day I'll get a campers knife (boy scout)! Most likely I'll get a Vic!

The large round bolster patterns are my favorite. Except for CASE with that Turkish clip point.I feel cheated only getting half a blade.

Ive heard the craftsman knives are made by schrade and the black buck stockmans were made by camillus

Grew up carrying the 34OT Middleman 40 plus years ago until I purchased a Spyderco Delica gen 1 in the early 90’s. Always wished the knife came with real sawcut bone, but the delrin covers could take a beating and not crack or break like bone. You can still buy the American made Old Timers on EBay. The current version made in China are not worth owning.

Case’s 47 pattern uses 3 springs so they don’t need to krona the blades. Interesting is that they have only done this with one pattern

Say Heah Jeremy, WoW I'm impressed. Yeah I really like the Stockman Pattern. I guess the Vaquero is similar to a Bullet Stockman. But I have a Case JumboTest Stockman, It's quite big and was made by a different company for Case. It's a beauty. I also have one I bought from Cutlery Corner when I was laid up after I broke my leg. It's also nice. It's made in Germany and it's beauty stands out with shiny black Buffalo Horn Handle. It's a Stockman with nice accents on the blade. I still have a Frost Cutlery Bullet Stockman Steel Warrior that L@@Ks nice and it's still in the Blister Pack. I never opened it. I also have a couple of Case both CV and Stainless. Jeremy You have some Beauties. Oh, I also have some Frost Cutlery Stockman with semi precious stone handles.,,. p

ISLANDOUTDOORS1 True that. Infact I just ordered a couple of W. C. Knives, I ordered A Master Woodsman and a copy of a Iz Turley Gasconade but I made some Suttle changes. Oh, both will be in 3V. The handle will be a White G-10 with a red, white and blue Liners. Also both will have leather black Dangler Sheath's. Yeah, I watched alot of Williams videos and reviews. So I know what you mean. But I almost swallowed my cigar when he told me how much both will cost, heh heh heh, Yeah he makes customs.,,.

I followed your videos religiously until you began comparing Chinese knives favorably to American knives with reference to price without regard to the fact that the American workers go home to family after their shifts and we have no way of knowing where the Chinese workers go
