You guys should build your own cabin at this point you now have the skills …. Building your own cabin will be something special in your life …. I would not allow anyone to build my cabin … I love building and doing all my builds has really been fun and amazing when your finished you’re like wow we did this …. It’s very easy … just get your step by step bottom to top all set up on paper or computer so you don’t miss any steps … KZbin is the perfect place to learn every step … have fun and happy trails …. Your family did a wonderful job .

Thank you so much! We have learned so much on the log home we have been working on, but have had quite a bit of help from a builder. We really wanted to make sure the structure was built correctly (since we are such novices!) and in a timely matter (my husband works full time, so the weekends are our only time for building). We are trying to do as much of the work ourselves (installing flooring, tiling, etc). Maybe we will try constructing a smaller cabin in the future to put our newly learned skills to work!

CONGRATULATIONS ! I think you folks did a Fantastic job on your build and so glad to see you have involved the whole family in the building of it. Kids will be Much better educated / prepared for life by learning building skills, much better to have a toolbox than an x box. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to watch.

You can tell shes worked hard! Time sure does fly. Sometimes the work the person organizing things puts in gets overlooked. She's been organizing things, starting a new KZbin channel, and that's on top of all the physical labor she does. (Cooking, cleaning, building structures, farm work, etc.) I moved from the city to a much smaller property than yours in a rural town almost 20 years ago. (The focus was being a SAHM and having plenty of space for my son to run around on. It was a great place for him to grow up.)

"So far out of our mental model of where we would be". It's a wonderful thi g, isn't it? Especially at this point in our lives and with the upheavals we are seeing in our country, and yet you are surrounded by those who have values that are similar to yours. Keep up the great work. Question: do you miss your old life, or do you wonder how you survived living in a larger city, with all that occurs?

Norm we had wonderful neighbors and no regrets about raising our kids there in the early years. But we LOVE this life, the people, and the area! We don’t miss our old life at all!

Hi Norm! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. To answer your question, in some ways I do miss our old life in that it was less dirty (easier to clean 🤪) and a little easier (less chores). I also miss our friends. But that's about it. This is experience the last year has been life changing and the closeness that our family has experienced since moving I would change for anything in the world! I love the animals, the peace and quiet and the beautiful views. We appreciate you watching!❤️

Hello! I am so sorry to hear about your house. We purchased our yurt from Blue Ridge Yurts in Floyd, VA USA. It is 30 feet in diameter, about 705 square feet of living spaced we love it! I wish I knew where the closest place to Romania was for yurt builders so that you could find out if it was a possibility for a new home for you. Praying you are able to find a home that you love soon!

You guys did a great job! I’m looking at doing a 40 foot Yurt build for me and my dog. How did you all mill the lumber before planning it? That’s a huge money saving tip!
@freedomranchhomestead7961
@freedomranchhomestead7961 Жыл бұрын
Hi J! We had a logger come to cut about 50 trees from our land and then had a portable saw mill come to cut the trees into the size and shape we needed for or log home. With what was remaining we had 4x8 timbers and many other varying lengths cut. We used quite a bit of the timber for the yurt. We love the yurt and would definitely recommend having it for you home👍🏻

Hello, nice to see what a great job you guys have done. Most of all I liked how you build your interior with solid pieces of wood beams, without all this kind of plywood staff I am currently constructing the 30ft YURT also (already finished the foundation). And now I have stuck with some questions, could you please help me? What dimensions in your case for rafters, I understand that they are 6x2, but what exactly is their length? I have already bought the dome itself, but without a wooden ring, so could you please share the dimensions for it? Don't ask why I bought just a dome, here in Ukraine it will cost a lot of money to receive a yurt to construct :)
@freedomranchhomestead7961
@freedomranchhomestead7961 Жыл бұрын
Hello to our friend in Ukraine! I wish I could give you the specifics on the length of the rafters and the size of the dome, but I can direct you to the website that we purchased the yurt from and maybe they can answer your questions, It is Blueridgeyurts.com. I wish you the absolute best of luck with building yours. I know you will enjoy it very much once you make it your cozy home!

Thank you Stephanie! The yurt is 30 feet in diameter (705sqft). We have a wood burning stove for the main heat but also had a mini split put it so at nighttime it wouldn't get too cold. Both keep us toasty!

@freedomranchhomestead7961
@freedomranchhomestead7961 9 ай бұрын
Thank you! It is a 30 foot, 700 sq ft. The cost for the yurt itself was around 26k, the decking about 15K, all the wood on the interior we had harvested, so it's hard to give you an estimate since a good portion of that lumber went into the house.

I was looking at these yurts for some time, They seem very expensive once you put everything you need into them possibly reaching the 100k mark all said and done, That said wouldn't buying a small cabin be a lot more economical and more long term and better insuated and mold proof for the same money? honest question, because im trying to figure out which path to follow.
@freedomranchhomestead7961
@freedomranchhomestead7961 8 ай бұрын
Hello there! Excellent question. I believe our final cost was around 60k, so for us it was more ecomenical to do the yurt as opposed to a cabin. It should last about 15+ years and then we plan on enclosing it with wood. I would do a cost analysis for building a small cabin in your area and then make the decision. We love the yurt and it was a very cozy home for 2 years, but now it is a vacation home for guests who enjoy the uniqueness of it. I wish you the best of luck on your build!
