@@Green_Heart_Family_Farm I bet! We've been looking at building a yurt on our property in the high mountains of Colorado for a while now. We've been working on the logistics of being able to keep it clean living in the mountains. And I think this would be the perfect solution for us too!

Beautiful home, really looks cozy. The one thing that concerns me is there's no window (that I can see) for the children or any kind of escape route, should one be needed. Also saw the video on putting in the wood stove, again very very nice. And you have a Newfie!! Aren't they the best dogs EVER? I've had 5 so far and have no interest in any other breed

@@Green_Heart_Family_Farm If you don't want to take the inside walls apart, you can always take the siding on the out side off, and put some foam board in and tape off the seams. You will need diffrent screws and need to recut the side peace on the corners to cover the foam board but it will give you way better insulation.
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm Жыл бұрын
@@christinaburney5935 Fortunately our winters are very mild here so I don't think we'll need to do that, but I appreciate the suggestions. Always lessons learned after each build!

Great video! Have you had any moisture or mold issues with the Yurt?
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm3 жыл бұрын
We had some moisture issues and spotted a bit of mold between the wall insulation and the side fabric at the end of last winter. We've got it cleaned up and made some adjustments, so we are hoping this winter goes better. I'm planning to do a video covering our winter prep and lessons learned from our first winter at some point. Thanks for the question and kind words! :)
@SurvivalOfTheBeardest3 жыл бұрын
@@Green_Heart_Family_Farm Thanks for the reply. I want to get a Yurt, mold is my only concern because I live in northern MN where it can get very cold. I look forward to your winter prep video!

When you built your mud room, how did you build the wall that's up against the yurt? Is there a video on that?
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm3 жыл бұрын
Hi Catherine, welcome and thanks for the question. This video shows the closest detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJamZWeEaa-bg7M The only permanent physical connection is between the two foundations and a connection of roofing material to keep the connection dry. Otherwise we built the wall of the utility room right up to the side of the yurt, but didn't physically connect them.
@catherineg86693 жыл бұрын
@@Green_Heart_Family_Farm that's what I was thinking you might have done. Thank you for the quick reply and the link. I'll be building a 30' yurt in Colorado, so I'm picking up all the tips I can!

How is the winter? And how the heating is working in Yurt? How is the insulation of the Yurt?
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm3 жыл бұрын
We used a wood stove to heat the yurt, and it went well. Insulation is pretty good. In our climate in Western Oregon, managing moisture in the yurt through the winter is a bigger challenge than temperature.
@OlimjonMatniyazov3 жыл бұрын
@@Green_Heart_Family_Farm to manage the moist always requires constant heat from the stove i see then? No heavy snows in your area?
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm3 жыл бұрын
@@OlimjonMatniyazov No heavy snows; frequent rain during winter, though. We are still learning how to balance ventilation and heat to keep the moisture out.
@OlimjonMatniyazov3 жыл бұрын
@@Green_Heart_Family_Farm i recently read that Japanese used rice paper walls to absorb the moist and tatami mata on the floor. Do you think it might help your situation?
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm3 жыл бұрын
@@OlimjonMatniyazov I'd be skeptical that it could get us through a whole winter, but I'll look into it. Thanks :)

Hi I have a Family of 5 as well. 2 Teenagers and a 9 yr who thinks she is haha. I was thinking of doing Yurts Connected via a Deck possibly. I love the ideas of the loft and the mud room. Did you purchase a kit for the size of the yurt or did you get measurements and customize all the cabinets and such?

How large is it?
@Green_Heart_Family_Farm2 жыл бұрын
Our yurt is 30' in diameter, which is about 700 square feet. The loft and utility room probably add another 200 square feet of useable space. Thanks for the question!
