Great Review. Note that @1:45 the label on the back of the machine says "Guangzhou Yihua Electronic Equipment Co., Ltd." so the unit is indeed made by same company and sold in different countries under different names. Yihua also markets under the name of WEP. They make good quality products that use standard 900m tips (T12 for some models) and have replacement parts available (replacement handles and hot air guns).

I've soldered together 3 SMD kits and a split keyboard with this station and I'm _very_ happy with it so far. Haven't really used the hot air for anything other than heat-shrink tubing so far but in that duty it performed perfectly well! Seems like a great buy for the cost! P.S. The soldering iron holder can be mounted to the top of the unit if you'd prefer it take up less horizontal desk space at the cost of vertical space :) EDIT: I didn't think to test the temperature but I will soon (in the next week or two)

Yeah calibrating with boiling water ist a great Idea. Next time i do a soldering Station review i will prepare this. I Need to find a Sponsor for this ;-) Yes your right with mounting on top. For me it was not nessesary right now so i forget it in the Video. The Video was any way much longer than i planned. Thanks for your Tips and commands.

Is this still the best option for price?
@3nertia
@3nertia Жыл бұрын
@@hobonickel840 Depends on your criteria? I haven't used mine in awhile so I can't speak to usage/reliability concerns but it's still a pretty good value for the money, I think. Anything that's temperature controlled will be better than the ones that just plug in with no controls though lol

I have this exact unit. I got it as my first hot air station. It has its flaws. But it seems to have had the right corners cut, in order to achieve a price that low. Nice to see a professional mirror my thoughts. Ive only just come across your channel. Loving it, so far!

Great video, I have heard that you can put a better quality iron from a more expensive brand like hakko and weller and get better results. Even getting tips from those brands could make a great difference.

Thanks for your Feedback, i Work Sometimes with a Weller and i didn't See a big Differenz in the Resultat most Differenz ist the build qulity at my Point of View. Do you Know if the Tips fit to this Station ? I never tried it.

Thank you for your opinion on this machine. I purchased one to do some basic power soldering on my JetSki control box that has some corroded and broken modular connectors. I decided to get this one because it had the hot air and there have been times when I wanted to fix obvious burned out or failed components on a circuit board but did not have a proper soldering iron. Now that I have this, maybe I'll expand my hobby into electronics and by an inexpensive Oscilloscope? 👍

Thanks for your Feedback :-) at my Point of View is a scope Something a can buy but it doesnt give you a big Advantage in diy Projects, Most time you use 5v, or 3v3 Logic Level. Analyse of "real" analog values is Not that often. I would think in direction of a Logic analyser. Alternativ there is a Project (Not on my Channel) with a pi Pico to create a scope. Would be the cheapest solution. Let me know If you buy Something, would be interesting to know your decision.

I’d like you to maybe review one that a little bit more expensive maybe around the range of $125-$150 to see if you can get a better handle. Usually for the hot air test you’re supposed compare the temperature on the screen to the real temperature by using a thermometer or temperature probes. I’m actually thinking of getting a Atten ST-862D but it would be cool to find something similar to it’s performance.

Hey thanks for your command. Yeah i also thought about to measure the Temperatur. But i don't have a calibrated measureing Tool. So i tought a practical test is sufficent. But your are completly right. Thanks for your Feedback.

@@lutz4tech You can easily calibrate any temperature measuring device by checking it against boiling water. Just buy a cheap one on Amazon, I've found the IR (non-contact) thermometer along with the other one I have for contact measurements have been more than adequate :)

Oh! One important caveat is to make sure the device's range can actually measure boiling water without damaging the device! Seems like it should go without saying but this _is_ the internet, so ...

I have this unit. Love the iron so far. The hotair is ok...just dont like how long it takes to heat up the solder. Anyways, the 3rd switch is most likely a "quick disconnect"...my assumption on it is basically an additional safety switch that interrupts the current....Ideally this is good for situations that involve children playing with the controls. Little bastards love to touch everything. Unless they are like my kids, if it isn't bright and colorful, it's boring. Other than that, my only other guess is accidental touch. It may seem redundant...but someone, somewhere, is very clumsy and is the reasons why many things get "idiot proofed".
@lutz4tech
@lutz4tech Жыл бұрын
Yeah, maybe its really the Idea to make it more safe. I never saw something like this in more Professional devices. But your right If my kids would get closer to it, they press every button the can. A "all Off switch" could help to make it safer. Thanks for your Idea.

How do it take for the soldering iron to heat up?
@chivo850
@chivo850 Жыл бұрын
@@jemdem7608 Sorry I seen this reply so late. It doesn't take long at all for it to reach temperature. It takes about 25 seconds to heat up and be at the desired degrees/Celsius. As for the hot air....takes the same time but to hit the number but an additional 5-8 seconds to hit the peak temp....So both way under a minute. It is still doing me good so far and no issues. I like the fact that if I have to switch from one to the other, I dont have to wait too long to alternate. One day i will eventually get a high-end unit....until then, I am pleased with this model.
