You may want to put a rounded piece on the front of the bowsprit so the anchor chain can roll to either side instead of getting caught on a corner then all of a sudden slipping off the corner and shooting down the side. I believe that is why the other one was rounded in the front so it can never catch, just slide with tension around the sides. Just a thought. Great work........

Something that might happen to you if you don't notice that they have done so. You might want to check out how they use 2 bow lines to tie off to cliffs and such to stabilize themselves.

Andy theres one issue sticking the anchor at the end ..though ot stops the chain marking the hull or anchor swinging into the hull.. take a look at how sailing Jupiter lost theirs in New jersey on the Loop... but if it snags you put more force on the fixing points on the bow. Its a compromise whichever you chose.

The 65Lb is rated to 70+ kts for our vessel. The 55lb is rated to 50+ kts. So we just decided to go with the one big storm anchor and use that. our big anchor windless will make short work of it and if the windlass did malfunction I could still haul it hand over hand in an emergency.

Interesting and helpful. I've got to make gimbles from scratch for our induction hob (and we are going to gimble our combination microwave/grill/oven) - we are planning them side by side so we can have the fridge under the hob (our hull curves in so couldn't stack as you have). We went for a 30kg Spade (we bought ours 2 years ago before Mantus made the M2 without rollbar). Watching the SV Panope videos leaves us happy with that choice). Did I hear the weight of Melody correctly 17,000 KG? The standard Rival 38 is about that in lbs so just under 8,000kg (we guess the centre cockpit and ketch add a bit to that). We will also add a Fortress kedge and eventually a storm anchor (maybe a Mantus M2 but probably a couple of sizes larger - which will be too much for our windlass to handle for everyday use but for a once in a lifetime a hurricane not such a worry).
@SailingMelody2 жыл бұрын
Hiya. No Melody is somewhere around 10 or 12000kg She’s actually 39ft on deck and 43ft overall with the bowsprit (I finally got the Lazer measure out and got some acurate measurements 😂😂😂 so a fair bit larger than a Rival 38. She is on the heavier side for sure but not horrendously overweight for her size I don’t think. We don’t know the exact weight though because the travel lift at the yard has a faulty scale on it so they couldn’t give me a weight reading when they lifted her. The plans say she weighs 9 tonnes 🤷🏼♂️ But I’m sure she’s more than that

A front opening fridge on a yacht is not the best option. most yachts have a top opening fridge as its more energy efficient. With a front opening fridge you let a lot of cold air out every time you open the door. The other problem is opening the fridge when sailing as the door has a tendency to swing around with the roll of the boat.
@SailingMelody2 жыл бұрын
Yes we’re aware of that and will also have too loading fridge and separate top loading freezer. That fridge will only be for daily use items
@matthughes64742 жыл бұрын
@@SailingMelody Front loaders aren't that bad for energy loss. The energy needed to bring the air down to temperature again after opening is minimal compared to cooling a bottle of water. Top loaders are really a hangover from coolbox days. But yes front loaders can be bad for spilling; we once chartered a boat with one; every time we went about one way the fridge would break its fastener and discharge across the cabin sole!
@arcenciel29682 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree, a front loading fridge is almost useless on a boat. Either you have to run the engine or the gen, they both make noise and are an inefficient way. I custom made a top loading fridge-freezer combo with two compressors, with all around 10cm insulation for the fridge and 15cm for the freezer. They are powered by 3 X 100 amp lead acid house batteries fed by two X 130watt solar panels. I’m in the Med, so you might need more solar real estate. The result is outstanding, I make ice and give to other boats too. 70 liters for the fridge and 30 liters for the freezer. Edit: The insulation is construction Dow plaques, had I known better at the time I would have used non expanding foam, apparently the results would be even better. The freezer knob has a fridge alternative so that if you run out of battery juice you can delete the big fridge and turn the smaller freezer into a fridge. Never had to do this in 9 years. Top hatch insulation is 5cm, bottom is 10cm for both fridge and freezer. Send me an e mail I can send you pics. Funny (not so funny really) story is that when the fridge arrived on the boat, it couldn’t fit through the door by 1 cm! The glass guy had to dremmel cut it in two parts and reassemble it inside the galley! If I asked you where the split is you couldn’t tell...the magic of fiberglass!
@SailingMelody2 жыл бұрын
This particular fridge draws 0.7amps at 2( degrees C. It can be used as a fridge or freezer. The losses involved when briefly opening the door are negligible when compared to an inefficient older system. That said we will also have a huge top loading fridge and freezer which I will be custom building. This is really only going to be used for daily milk, butter and cheese etc. But the efficiency rating is so good that despite losing a tiny bit of cold air when you open the door it uses almost nothing to get that back.
@arcenciel29682 жыл бұрын
@@SailingMelody When it says 0.7 amps count 1 amp. So, 24 amps is a lot for milk and butter. Let alone the space allocated just for milk and butter. Nothing prohibits you to store your milk in the top loading fridge! And even leave the hatch open for a while! Think about it. You could use one of the two compressors from this fridge you just installed. Send me an address or something, I have loads of useful pics.

I really do hate it when channels try to introduce an advert in a conversation and you're not sure it's an advert until it's too late. I instantly stopped watching as soon as I realised what was going on I hate it. Please don't use segways like that again. It should be clear that this part of the video is an advertisement. It feels a little bit dishonest and I know that's exactly not you. I hope this feedback helps

I think we will probably end up trying several different ways of doing it when we get the opportunity and then we will work out eventually what works best for the channel and our viewers. Like you say dishonesty is the last thing we would aim for, we were aiming for seamless integration and to make it something rhat people would enjoy watching, rather than a completely sterile and separate Add read but it’s a tricky line to tread.
