How are you sailing with all the sails furled ? ? Maybe new age electric motors ????

With the dingy sitting so high, you might have issue with sails when tacking. Be nice to look at new dingy and see how low you could make it. Turning dingy over would be better and you could still open hatch. The way you have it will be a problem with rain, although you could leave drain plug out but that would put dirty water and the deck. Just my opinion

We are just playing around with it trying to work out what works best for us.... We Definitely want it lower either way.

I wouldn't worry to much about the "Keyboard Warriors " there's an old saying about " Walking a mile in my moccasins " ,,, The smoke on start up may be valve stem wear ,,, monitor your oil consumption to see how bad it is ?

Good video, and what you guys are doing is great, but Click bait is what people understand it to be: A sensationalized headline that wrongly pulls people into a video or onto a page that does in no way promises what the headline link initially promised. Everything else is just a good headline/link name. Is the dingy cradle not going to make it take off in high winds?

Congratulations on breaking the 07k barrier. Just a quick question. Did you rough up the copper coat after you had let it dry. I thought you had to do this to actuate it. Happy to be wrong.

I think you're escaping the country because you don't like the direction it's going. I wonder if you think it's finished or if it can be salvaged. Do you understand this is a time of great change? The madness can't endure but there are going to be rough seas ahead. I like your channel and you two seem like very authentic people, sensible and well possessed. Once the storms have abated and people stop pointing fingers and scapegoating, it'll be good to watch your channel without wondering how nationalist you are.

I would keep a used but serviceable impeller as an emergency backup
@MrJudgementday99
@MrJudgementday99 2 күн бұрын
One thing I would say is that I am sure you did but just didn’t show it, but if parts of your impeller have broken off it is important to try find them in the heat exchanger as they can reduce the flow and make the heat exchanged less efficient. As for the chap complaining, please ignore it and just enjoy what you are doing, we have sailed long passages in some very challenging weather through the Indian Ocean and up the Red Sea and are now doing short hops in the Mediterranean. For me the day hopping is so much more fun, we get to see the world. Enjoy yourself and just do it your way

I've heard the steel keels (not sure if this is....just as I say that "it's lead"). Well I was going to say they don't absorb impact but transfer it into the boat......not the case here obviously, but still interesting ??? Maybe not 😅

Keep doing what you are doing short sails helps you to get to know your boat I would do just the same as you and see as much as I could, I have watch people sail long trips and get in trouble very quickly baby steps is the sensible way to go,some times you do tend to waffle but that’s ok as that is you keep going and sail free love your show

Thanks for being so open about your finances, very interesting for other people who plan to cruise on a budget (like me) and shows you can do it with not much money actually. One suggestion about your outboards: I think it might be very difficult to get a 9.9 HP on and off a dinghy (too heavy). From my experience a 5 HP is plenty to get around. This depends a bit on on the shaft length, but why don't you mount the 9.9 as a safeguard/backup engine with a bracket on the transom of Ocean Melody? So in case the main diesel fails, you can still get to a marina. I had my inboard fail on me twice, with the second time my prop getting caught in a craypot line. The danger of that is also significant in Europe especially off the coast of Portugal. I am in the process of installing a 6HP Tohatsu long shaft on the back of my boat as a backup. In your case your 9.9 HP would also be enough to get you safely home.

No doubt you've moved on from Milford Haven now but a trip up the Haven would have been well worth while. I lived in Pembroke Dock for several years and also Lawrenny, which is further up the Haven. It seems fashionable these days to criticise negatively. As has been said ,do your own thing and don't let the buggers grind you down! An edit. One thing I forgot to mention is that the blue smoke at start up from cold is more than likely to be worn valve guides or damaged seals. At rest the oil left on the cylinder head can run down the guides, when the engine is stopped for only a short while the oil doesn't have time to run down. Black smoke would indicate that the injectors need servicing.

Holy cow, can't believe someone actually wrote such a critical comment to you. If the shoe were on the other foot how would that person feel if a total stranger wrote such a rude & critical comment? Trying to live a good life and take care of your family is #1 priority. Plans change. That's life. 💖🤗🙏⛵🐬

Your kids are probably far safer crossing an ocean with you than they are in a big city, or driving a car. People are just afraid of what is unknown to them. I was homeschooled for a year while living on my parents boat as a kid. I Loved it, and excelled at the schoolwork.

Hey, one of the best things you can fit to your engine is a few independant temperature sensors. Ideally one on the exhaust around the exhaust manifold to quickly detect loss of raw water. Another can go on the head. This will show overheating way quicker than the main tempguage. The other place to add one is on the transmission. They usually have an ajustable alarm set point which is worth its weight in gold. They have saved my bacon a few times. Ive used the Aussie made engine watchdog TM4, but I am sure others work fine.

I don’t see a point commenting on videos that are weeks behind. I’m not sure why utubers that post weekly get weeks behind anyway. You should make a weekly video and post it up to the present date. Or perhaps this is just a way to get your patrons to pay for the latest episodes…..

🤣🤣It takes the pressure off so when we are on passage and we can't edit we know we are a couple of weeks ahead, certainly makes life less stressful being a couple of weeks ahead! Plus each video takes 16 to 20hours to edit 🤷 it's like doing everything last minute in your job and hoping you hit the deadline rather than getting a little ahead in your work so you are not snowed under.

@@SailingMelody so its totally pointless suggesting something , giving advise or you guys asking what do we think.. But it seems you keep saying you will catch up so I’m confused that you now saying it’s for when your on passage. I enjoy channels that make current videos every week and post up to date progress and we can then comment directly to the subject.

Hello, good afternoon. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 My dear Captain Welsh, you have done EVERYTHING correctly, don't worry so much about giving an explanation to someone who tries to criticize you, first, they won't understand it, second, it's not on your mind. I just want to tell you that MANY TIMES you will notice that THERE IS NO correct path, but there are MOTIVES and correct REASONS to choose a path. I was listening to your wife and they will truly have a titanic task. ONLY FROM HERE I SUPPORT your decision and congratulate you for everything you have achieved. First law of Life: The less you tell, the better it will be for you and if you don't talk about it, no one ruins it. P.S. What's wrong with the United Kingdom, Mr. Sunak leaves and Mr. Starmer enters.....Uhm Uhm..This Mr. has a nervous Tic always looking to the left. What fucking luck! 🤣😏

Smoke on start up is usually an indicator of worn valve guide seals. Minute qty of oil weeps into combustion chamber and burns up after starting from cold. Doesn't happen when warm as all parts expanded and compressing seals. As engibe cools seals shrink causing weeping. When it affects actual starting is the time to worry.

Why spend so much time responding to people like that? It’s extremely boring! If you wanted us to go somewhere else, you wouldn't do it any other way! I have some advice for you: you have a dream and a great family, so go ahead and leave the cold pissers aside, on the side of the road (Because those will never go anywhere: they are dream breakers, bitter people) Ask this gentleman why bees don't waste their time explaining to flies that nectar is better than shit...
