What's ironic here is that the F-14 sprite you used is from SEGA's "After Burner", a game with the same concept as "Top Gun" on the NES, and yet is a far superior game.

No but it does allow for things like Sprite Scaling which the NES was not capable of.... The System 16 board could. And while I never played Top Gun 1, Top Gun Second Mission I enjoyed.

There are several, the most faithful in my opinion being Top Gun: Fire at will, which had both a PS and a PC version and did a pretty decent job following the original movie. I have fond memories of playing the PC version for hours on end with my official Top Gun joystick and actually becoming a pretty decent dog fighter for a kid in his early teens! If any game deserves a HD remake, even if just purely for nostalgia purposes, it’s that one! I’d happily buy it again and “go ballistic” with an updated joystick any day! (Quick note: not only do they sell updated versions of the original Top Gun joystick with usb plugs, but you can also buy joysticks modelled after the actual control stick from the F-14 Tom Cat, plus throttle and rudder controls! Just imagine the fun possibilities!) FFS, somebody make an HD remake happen already! Cheers everyone, have a great day!
