Pro tip: don't ever use the Mega Drive soundfont.The flaws with it are really apparent in this, the biggest one being notes ending suddenly, which shouldn't be happening because the FM patches that the soundfont sampled don't have an abrupt release last time I checked. It leads to the whole track sounding disjointed. Then there's also the issue of the instruments themselves being mediocre. Sonic instruments aren't inherently bad but they have the same issue as Rocket Knight Adventures, in that they're only really good in what they were originally used in. Outside of that they don't really fit. There are significantly better instruments out there, like the ones in Verytex and Thunder Force IV. If you wanna make more Mega Drive music but want to stick with a DAW, then I would recommend learning how to use the Genny VST for the FM portion and some sort of VST like ProtoPSG for the PSG portion of the system. Preferably, you could use Deflemask or VGM Music Maker since that has .VGM export for playback on real hardware.

It doesn't emulate anything though. It's a collection of sound files that were probably ripped using emulators, which isn't how the Mega Drive works. The MD has two distinct soundchips: the YM2612 (FM synth) and a integrated SN7 (PSG). The 2612 works by generating sounds based on parameters specified in a instrument (technically a "patch"), which are usually a few bytes in size. It has no support for samples outside of being able to turn the sixth channel into a monophonic DAC. The SN7 works by being given volume envelopes that control the volume and pitch of the instrument. Soundfonts basically strip all the functionality away from you and give you a shallow, limited, and frankly just awful set of tools to work with. If you want to make actual Genesis music, then like stated before, use Genny + a PSG VST in a DAW, or DefleMask.

There is no such thing as a soundfont that uses the YM2612, because FM chips and sound fonts are entirely different things. Soundfonts rely on pre-recorded samples, which can only have their volume, length, and pitch changed, while FM chips generate sound on the fly according to commands, which means that any variety of factors can be changed at any time.
