I tried to make a song like this but my DAW gave me an error message saying "access denied, requires a prerequisite of Calculus 3 with a grade of B or better". :(

your stuff is amazing if you dont mind me asking - what scales/modes do you tend to use?
@acreil6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the temperament. This one is basically trivial; for each chord just I'm picking 4 notes at random. But for 8 equal there aren't really enough available notes to form scales or a wide variety of chords. For other temperaments I usually more carefully pick the intervals, chords and scales I think sound good or interesting.

Awesome composition. I was actually wondering if you'd share any details on how you did the phaser sound, most audible toward the end when other instruments fade out. Are you using allpass filters in parallel, or something else?
@acreil6 жыл бұрын
Generally I use two signal paths that each have a chain of allpass filters and a short delay (like 0-20 ms). They can either be added together or subtracted. It's sort of like a combined phase shifter and thru-zero flange. The delays and allpasses are modulated independently. It looks weird on a spectrogram.

Is everything pure synthesis or are samples involved too?
@acreil7 жыл бұрын
It's all synthesis, no samples, no external sequencer, plugins or effects.

True of literally every Pd patch, one of the more shallow reasons I don't use it.

This music is great, but the pd UI trips my OCD super hard.

what is making the baseline? where can i learn?
@acreil5 жыл бұрын
IIRC it's a variant of FM layered with subtractive. Nothing really complicated.
@wolfmoon95405 жыл бұрын
@@acreil wow i would not have guessed it's FM. its phat =)

How long does it take to learn pd?
@acreil7 жыл бұрын
Depends on your background. It's a fairly steep learning curve, but the built-in example patches are pretty helpful.

Also, what do you think of the Casio MT-55? I just got one off of eBay!
@acreil7 жыл бұрын
I've actually been looking for one of those. I don't have one or anything like it but they seem to be pretty cool. I think the MT-55 and related models were the last ones to be introduced before sample playback was used for everything. They're different from the other models like the MT-65, MT-35, MT-70, etc.
@jackcimino88227 жыл бұрын
acreil The MT 55 shares its hardware with the PT 100, MT 88, MT 21, and Casiotone 403. You can save your searches on eBay or Reverb
@acreil7 жыл бұрын
The Casiotone 403 should be different and much older, I think. I do save searches but I'm a tightwad so I'm waiting to find one for cheap.

listen man listen, I know your tired of hearing about how great you are. but right now we are all sitting in a circle talking about your music. you get annoyed and don't want to hear people praise you, why though? Because then you might actually have to do something, and who wants to do anything these days, everyone is so damn depressed, so damn anxious who would bear the responsibility of making good music. Do you know the kind of horrible music we have to put up with on a daily basis the worst music is the most listened... who else but you, you have to be the one, no one else will bear the burden, thats right, you and only you, your the only one whos going to be capable.
