I installed the Vanilla Version, I have a M1 Macbook pro and it works. Otherwise it won't let you install it. As well as on my older 2013 Macbook pro that I built

@@menelikmarutle9256 Interesting to hear that it works on M1! Thanks for the heads up. I know the plugdata team are working on implementing GEM so I wonder if it'll work on the newer Mac OS.

🤯 This is exactly the functionality that I need for my laser imagery! I'm already using PD to provide my usbMIDI links between Cakewalk's DAW, APC40 MIDI controller, and a Teensy laser synth polyphonic 14 waveform generator module in each of the 3 projectors. Hopefully, I can substitute GEM's stock imagery with the Teensy synth's. You've got me hooked on your tutorial (again). Thanks!🙏😎

@TheOleHermit2 жыл бұрын
@@SoundSimulator Perhaps I'll do some videos of the completed project... ~6 months down the road. Better to spare viewers from the sausage making. Last week, I attempted to sum the waveforms from my quad audio shields with the DC from those great little Adafruit quad DACs you demonstrated (no blame) and it fried my whole module! 🤦♂️ Back to the drawing board. BR😎 Oh yeah. Here's a seed for your thoughts. Your proximity sensor reminded me of what I called a 'joy ring' back in the day, based upon strain gauges, similar to those used years later on those silly x/y nubs of old laptops.
@SoundSimulator2 жыл бұрын
@@TheOleHermit Seriously, you have to document the project! It's a requirement!! Dang, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the damage wasn't too big. I typically call it pressure sensor but I should technically call it strain gauge.

Right after installation i get the message, "declare: ~lib: unknown declaration" and none of the gem objects work. Any way to get around this?
@inermus2 жыл бұрын
I have a problem at the beginning, I make the objects and messages correctly, I also put [declare -lib Gem] and in the control center I get this message [gemmacoswindow]: I cannot switch to the current window (do you have one?), cannot be rendered!
@SoundSimulator2 жыл бұрын
I have not encountered that error message but there are people on Pure Data forum who have. It seems to be an issue with Big Sur (and possibly beyond). I still use Mojave 10.14, so I won't be able to recreate that error and try to solve it together with you unfortunately. One of the solutions that I saw on GitHub was... "i don't really know, but she could try changing the windowing backend, by changing the gemdefaultwindow.pd abstraction in the Gem/-folder and replacing the [gemmacoswindow] (or whatever is there) to one of the other gem*window options installed on your system. (just look out for any externals (.pd_darwin,...) in the Gem/-folder that match the gem*window pattern). possibly good choices are: [gemglfw3window], [gemglutwindow]." It seems like lot of people encountered this issue, so there might be a good solution out there hopefully!!!

Newer OS has trouble with GEM. I have been using Mojave, so didn't know that this was an issue before releasing this video. I saw this on a forum and it may work for you. Let me know if it does. "i don't really know, but she could try changing the windowing backend, by changing the gemdefaultwindow.pd abstraction in the Gem/-folder and replacing the [gemmacoswindow] (or whatever is there) to one of the other gem*window options installed on your system. (just look out for any externals (. pd_darwin,...) in the Gem/-folder that match the gem*window pattern). possibly good choices are: [gemglfw3window], [gemglutwindow]." Somebody replied saying that [gemglutwindow] worked. There could be some other solutions on Pure Data forum. Another option is using Ofelia. Check out a demo of it here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGrdZptqr6mhfKc I'm thinking about making a tutorial on this since it looks like it works for newer OS.

Does anyone have problems with creating gemwin object? I downloaded gem packages but there is an error message "couldn't create" for the gemwin object
@SoundSimulator2 жыл бұрын
It happened to me at first too. Then I did the [declare -lib Gem] thing and it started working. If that doesn't work, I recommend using Pure Data Extended. I think I read somewhere that GEM doesn't work nicely with Windows computers.

im newb and wondering if i can just put input somehow from a soundfile and only do the visual part in pure data?

Yeah, it should be possible to do sound analysis to do visuals. I may make a video on it someday... In the meantime, you can search for Pure Data audio analysis and apply it to this patcher. There should be forum posts.
