The "silver" projectile jackets are made from Cupronickel. An early metal jacket material that supposedly increased barrel life & velocity due to nickel's lubricative properties. However, it leaves behind metal fouling that is difficult to remove. Mauser collectors may encounter bores absolutely caked with this silvery metal alloy. Gilding metal jackets, more commonly called copper jackets, won out as this copper alloy's residue is much easier to remove from bores. Often, just ammonia is enough to remove it.

@@donwyoming1936 higher end ammo still uses the practice but the process is more refined. Nickel isn't an easy metal to bind to lead or other metals.

This is one of those "I'm so American I pronounce European languages incorrectly on purpose" things.

@8mmmauserman lol. If you never travel there it doesn't matter too much I suppose. Being American and speaking their language grants massive brownie points, though. Even if it isn't fluent.

@@SonOfTheDawn515 I was just joking. I work with a bunch of internationals and try my best to be respectful, but I do think it's funny to struggle pronouncing things on camera.

@@8mmmauserman the camera effect lol. I feel that but it was international news for me.
