8th Dan Semi-final Park vs Furukawa

The first semi-final was between D. Park and Furukawa. The timbre of Furukawa's battle cries was different than the first round, and he clearly understood the magnitude of the situation. A loss to the Korean would be unthinkable. It was Park though who looked to have scored the first point with another trademark men, but unbelievably only one flag went up. No point. Furukawa unleashed one of his fearsome thrusts to the throat followed immediately by a men strike that was scored. Park was obviously disappointed, and went straight back in to try and reclaim the point. A series of vicious blows were exchanged and Furukawa then managed to seal the match with a deft strike to kote as Park was initiating an assault on men. Match to Furukawa.

Actually, I see the men-strike at 2:19 as FURUKAWA san failed his kaeshi-do. That men has been blocked if you replay that in slo-mo.

Because he hit first. Watch it again couple of times. Close your eyes and listen to the sound. Red was faster than white. (I am just judging by the hit, since I don't have the expertise to make judgments on other aspects)

You cant see it but the point was voided. One of judges disagreed with the other two heard the kaeshi or block if you want to call it that but also felt the dou wasnt strong enough.

It seems that Fukukwa san hit the mask, instead of men, in his final attack. Am I wrong?

svatantrika hard to tell as its on the other side of the men. May have actually been a reasonable sayumen. Its a shame there wern't better angles available but I think it was ippon. It wasn't straight on the mengane thats for sure. You can see the kensaki dissapear behind the other side of the men in the slowmow. My first thought for deciding against the ippon would be hasuji. But again cant make the call becuase the tsuru is on the other side.... Doesn't matter though. Shinpan's decision is final eh ? Lol ;)

What do you guys think was missing from Park's men strike at ~2:00? Not deep enough maybe? This was quite a lively match for 8dan I thought. Interesting.

I replayed this video in slow motion and I think Park's men hit first and should have been counted as such.

I think the strike is a clear score. Clearly it wasn't a fair judgment, which obscures the nature of the sport.
