I’ve always built my gaming PCs over the years, however the last one I did not! I must say though, there is definitely something satisfying about building your own PC. The ability to choose every part and customize it to your liking is also a plus.
@thesahdstudio7 ай бұрын
Haha right?! I could see doing it for hobby even then just selling the computers afterwards... it's fun. Even just accumulating old gear and building silly computers would be satisfying too. For now though I just want to build something decent. It's weird though, I have this urge to game... but I don't have a game I want to really even play.
@blindrocket7 ай бұрын
@@thesahdstudio Is there a genre that you like to play? Steam often has good sales, and the Epic Game store has a couple of free games every month. It’s worth it just to grow your collection even if you aren’t going to immediately play them.

@@blindrocket It's a good, difficult question... I have always loved aRPGs, like Diablo, Path of Exile etc... I was a bit disappointed by Diablo 4 so didn't play that as much as I had hoped. I recently have gotten into some story driven FPS games (Playing through the Metro games). I'd like to play Cyberpunk... I love some indie games like Brotato, Vampire Survivors, Balatro etc... I'm all over the map. I'm down for trying something new! Have you been playing anything fun?
@blindrocket7 ай бұрын
@@thesahdstudio I do have a gaming PC, but have not been playing many PC games lately. The last game that I really loved was Ghost of Tsushima on the PS5. I’m a fan of samurai films and games, so I already had a romantic view of the genre. Sony has been putting first party games on PC lately so it is now available there. Cyberpunk looks awesome and I believe that they fixed a lot of their initial issues that they were criticized for. I look forward to that one as well! The line between PCs and consoles has been blurred more than ever and I believe going forward more games will be on even more platforms. I know the last game that got a lot of buzz was Baldur’s Gate 3, an RPG set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. I have not played it yet but it was a big deal.

Congrats on the successful build; it's always such a relief when it boots up for the first time with no issues ;) The thing to keep in mind with PCs is that every component has to be equivalent to each other, or you can end up with a bottle neck somewhere that can slow things down. So for example, if you have a great GPU but low RAM, the RAM can slow you down despite the great GPU (in some cases, as it also depends on what resources an application may use). So instead of figuring out what uses what, it's perhaps easier to just get all good parts (which is why PCs can end up costing a lot). So, with editing, the GPU is obviously critical but arguably of near equal importance - lots of RAM, like 64gb or more. Likewise, an M.2 SSD storage drive, as reading/writing from a storage drive can be a classic bottleneck point. You'll also need a modern Motherboard that can house all that, a power supply that can provide the juice for everything when it's running at max and an air or liquid cooling system to keep heat low on the GPU/CPU. Also, and this is a hot topic, but also - Intel man, seriously, go the Intel/NVidia route. PCPartPicker is a good place to start. Lastly, I didn't even know you had another channel :)
@thesahdstudio7 ай бұрын
Yeah good points. I agree. And you are team Intel/Nvidia eh? Are you able to expand on why? It sure is fun building PCs. It could be fun doing it as a hobby. And yeah, funny eh about the other channel :) I'm a bit all over the map with it but it's a fun outlet that way. Makes sure I'm passionate about each video.
@PocketAmbience7 ай бұрын
@thesahdstudio Most, not everyone, but most would agree that these days, Intel is the better value to performance option. Plus history, they've been around a really long time - like I remember running Pentium chips on 486 computers back when 32mg of RAM was a lot lol. And then they pair with Nvidia, which along side with they're RTX cards, are heavily invested in the research sector, which is where I work. So, if we use Nvidia to do cutting-edge predictive research, then that's probably a good indication of its quality. But, don't get me wrong, you can make a sick gaming PC with AMD and an RX GPU, but if you want the best - it's gotta be Intel/Nvidia. Yes, it is fun building PCs, wait till you attempt to build your own cooling loop ;) For me filming is the hobby and when I buy new gear I tend to do the rounds on KZbin first to see what people say, but I don't tend to subscribe to camera gear channels because it's not something I'm that interested in unless I'm looking for something specific. But you and this other guy, Purposed Lens, are the exceptions cause you make engaging content. So I'm pleased to learn you have another channel, I'll certainly go subscribe and check it out.
@thesahdstudio7 ай бұрын
@@PocketAmbience Haha, I hope to get really in there with some water-cooling etc one day. Well I appreciate having you in my comments! I love chatting and value your responses. I do enjoy cameras but it turns out not quite enough to keep an entire channel dedicated to them.... which is why I'm glad there's a little bit of flex room within my channel name. I have a tendency to bounce around with my interests quite fast which is more obvious on my other channel... it makes it hard to grow a KZbin audience but it's more exciting for me at least. I hope most of my audience appreciates it.... I know each video might not be on a topic of interest for the viewer but I usually end up coming back to something they were interested in in the first place! 😂

It might be worth waiting it out. Because right now, lots of new tech is coming out. Lots of new chips are coming soon with AI integration etc. So there may be some great deals to be had on things that will be considered last generation soon.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I don't know the space well enough to recognize a good deal yet but perhaps I'll get there if I stay interested in this and learn the economy. It's fun building even when you don't really have a use for it hehe.

I ended up buying a Windows laptop this weekend refurb at Microcenter with an i7-13700HX, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB m.2 SSD and RTX 4060 for $799. I felt comfortable at that price and it appeared perfectly new when I opened it up. I have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro too and I enjoy it, but there are a few things about MacOS that annoy me. First one (and biggest), it doesn't drive the Samsung g95sc monitor I have at 240hz and when you push advanced refresh rates over Display Port (120 or VRR 40-120) flickering can happen. Using a mouse for GeForce Now gaming is a PITA because there feels like micro jitters that simply don't exist on Windows. Plus, Razer Synapse is not available on Mac. Like you, I enjoy my Mac and appreciate it...but Windows especially in a more stationary situation (though we'll see on these new Snapdragon chips), has it's benefits too.
@thesahdstudio7 ай бұрын
That seems like a nice laptop. How is the battery on it? That's the thing I'll be most curious about with the newer lappy's this summer... My old Zephyrus laptop was decent but the power just got annihilated when I unplugged it. The Mac doesn't have that problem one bit. I will miss that. And yeah that's interesting about the refresh rates... it is kind of annoying. Is the 4060 on the lappy good enough for decent gaming?
@perfectalpha7 ай бұрын
@@thesahdstudio great question. To me, when M1 MacBook Air dropped it was the first device that had the 3 Ps. Performance, Price and Portability. I don't know what this laptops battery life is because it's never going to leave the bottom of my desk. I wanted something that was powerful enough to drive the monitor well and can play games. As far as the 4060 goes, I am confident it will be fine for indie titles like Hades 2, The Rogue Prince of Persia, etc. Admittedly, I play on GeForce Now these days. I would rather stream the games because the quality you get is incredible and the price is really not that wild. The 4060 gives me the benefit of AV1 streaming for that service along with VRR (variable refresh rate) in game. For me, the service has enough of the titles I want to play that I am not worried about whether or not this laptop plays the games incredibly. GFN has been a revelation for me when it comes to gaming. It's definitively offers better graphics and input latency (for me) than PS5 and Xbox Series X that it's ridiculous.
@thesahdstudio7 ай бұрын
@@perfectalpha That's interesting.. I'll have to check it out. You have to own the games you play on GFN right? Does it use THEIR hardware to run the games, is that why it's great? I thought you had to have your own beefy desktop then stream the games to your other devices but it's been awhile since I looked into it.
@perfectalpha7 ай бұрын
@@thesahdstudio You do have to own the games (or sub to Ubisoft+ or Xbox Game Pass). This is using THEIR hardware, that is correct so if you sub to the 4080 Tier, you get a 4080 level of gaming. For games, you're "capped" at 4k/120. If it has a competitive mode, you can do some titles (Counterstrike, Fortnite, etc.) at 1080p/240hz. Either way, the games look better than their console counterparts in my experience. A game like Cyberpunk on GFN is >>>>> Cyberpunk on Xbox Series X graphically. Input latency isn't even an issue. Truth be told, if you have a Samsung smart TV, you can stream with the service at 4k/60 and almost every titles functions like that. The service uses minimal resources on your computer and if you're hard wired and close to a data center (like I am), I am seeing ping that's consistently below 5 ms and normally at 3 ms. If the service has the titles you want, the service is unbelievable and definitely makes the console performance feel inadequate. Consoles still win from a game library standpoint. You'd have to spend north of $2k to get performance like that on dedicated hardware, that's for sure.

I can't give suggestions because I'm not a KZbinr and don't have your use case, but I do know that you need to use the platform that does the job for you, and if that's Windows then so be it. Having said that, I am curious about how other KZbinrs are handling GPU intensive tasks on their MacBooks.
