Hey Thanks Mortske! I really appreciate That! 👍 Now I need to decide what the next plan of action is! I'm thinking of doing a chassis swap ...🤔
@MortskeRepair3 жыл бұрын
@@CountryBoyGasGarage Yeah the ancient brakes, steering, oddball tires, etc is reason to get away from that stuff. I'd graft a GM 1 ton front subframe on it and then install the GM rear axle on the Ford leaf springs after removing a few as you'll have a difficult time finding something the correct wheelbase already. Then you'll really have something cool!
@CountryBoyGasGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@MortskeRepair That’s what I'm thinking. I'm looking for a Chevy C30 dually for a donar vehicle. Was hoping to find one same wheelbase(157)I think, to swap. Now just thinking of doing exactly what you suggested! 👍

When I was 15 years old in 1970 I bought my first vehicle which was a 1946 Ford bus with the body taken off, the frame cut short and big wheels with huge army tires mounted on them. It had two seats mounted on plywood on the frame with a big plywood box on the back. It had a bad rod bearing so I got it for $50. Turns out flathead Ford's had full floating rod bearings so all I had to do was take out all the rods and pistons and have the rods resized and put new bearings in. Whole fix less than $100. The best ride I ever had.

Loving the videos! and restoring this beauty! I do recommend making sure you go over all the breaks ( And Parking Break) and steering, Lights and replace anything that needs changed. but for something that old I would also recommend replacing all the break lines front to back because all it takes is you needing to step on the breaks and blowing a break line. in my mind safety is number 1 for any big vehicle that's on the road. My vintage school bus I'm restoring right now is bigger than the one you got, but im on my second year with it right now and I'm still going over everything on it, make sure its safe before i hit the road.

@@CountryBoyGasGarage I agree, I personally would try to keep the stock running gear (maybe a gear ratio change or rear end swap). ANYTHING rubber like seals on ball joints, tie rod ends, window seals will ALL need to be replaced or you risk destroying possibly good hard to find compoents. This isn't like a 1982 chevy half ton that every parts house in the nation can get every part for... My $0.02 your rig, enjoy the ride. As a side note, can you please work on mixing your music track to a similar level as your microphone audio? I have to keep jacking the volume up and down while I watch.

It sure looked good seeing it waddle out of the briars! I saw a little blue smoke but after sitting that long it's really good. Restoration is one way to go, or you could swap in a late model ton chassis if you plan on hauling with it. All I know is that the best the old girl will do on the road is 50 to 55 and it's going to sound very uncomfortable. Years ago I helped with a church bus that was an early 50s Chevy. The 292 was shot and the reason mostly was the very high numerical ratio rear axle. It was some silly 6:86 to 1 or something. The reason for such a gear ratio was it was built for a school in East Tennessee around Jellico. It had to climb some serious nasty hills on unimproved roads. We mostly used it for picking up kids and members around the neighborhood. Those low gears were sweet in that stop and go but if you got over 45 mph she laid down an oil cloud. It was screaming! One of our members had an old wrecker that had a 2 ton 2-speed axle under it with a modern 5 speed and 366 Chevy (I think. This was in 1977!) Anyhow a better trans and rear gear will help drivability. Hint....old class A motorhomes go for cheap and are usually of low miles. Good luck! I'm looking forward to your next video! Quite sure by now that what I suggest is the same as everyone else. Its been so long since I watched your series but I did watch them all. Trouble is that at my age, I could watch everyone of them and it would be a world premiere to me. I forget my kids names. Sometimes that is a good thing tho. I really love the old ford trucks and it was one of the first that I made money with driving and hauling anything that paid money at sixteen. I really would love to see a front end cut and buff on the paint as it seems to have a good base to it. Somehow its sad to see all the vegetation have to come off. You might just save a bunch of it for some kind of terrarium and have some turtles and other in it. Like the old fifties tv sets that had the big wooden cabinets and some had the radio and a record player as well so one of those would take some creative thinking but heck, times on your side now. I admire anyone who can battle those blackberry bush vines as they are really hard to go through.... I would of had a skid steer with a mulcher on it to go through that as I remember getting tossed in one when I was little... and the fun I had when I come home from Nam and then knocked on the boys door that tossed me in them. I weighed a good two seventy and had nineteen inch guns on me. He never did s**t for this country and had his woman and self on food stamps.... grant you if you need them then that is what they are for. Not a Biden giveaway like our president currently has done to us. I grabbed him and drug him behind his house and tossed him way back into the brush like a rag doll and he cried like a baby. I am seventy three now but I weigh about three hundred and it ain't all fat.... yeah no six pack but still got some of me left. Trouble is about three months ago, doctor told me I have cancer so maybe I will get tossed in the weeds again. Don't care what they do with this carcass as I think I ran most of the good out of it. No begging man, take it on the chin and roll with life as life rolls on. So build that rig as you see it and don't back up

@@hippyhillbillie2958 Hey Thanks! I really appreciate it! I don't want to chop it but someone already cut out the flathead and Trans and put in a Y-block and changed the Trans and pedals plus other stuff so she's not stock anymore. Maybe upgrade some suspension and maybe airbags but mostly keep it the same!

You know the interior is such a cool color it might be good to paint the outside a green or turquoise and white 2 tone. All school busses look alike but this one has mad character, so changing the color would really change it up. I would throw a small block Chevy in it for cheap simple power.
