It would take a Cat 977H or D8H and move on down the road. Great memories. Neighors hated it... and me cause i drove the crap out of it through the neighborhood pulling into grandad's equipment yard😂

Somewhere on yuktub there is a video of 2 Diesel trucks driving by the camera. A 4 Cycle V8 and a Detroit 8V92. The 4 stroke sounds like a helicopter but the Detroit just Hums. I tested the DDEC system at GM on engine dynos. The 8V92T was just awesome. The warmup for the opacity smoke test was Wide Open Throttle at Rated Speed for 20 minutes. Then the actual test was a run up from idle at WOT to rated speed then zero throttle w/ an rpm drop then back to WOT under full load until rated speed. In other words it sounded just like someone was running it thru the gears. I'm 72 and I can still "Feel" that sound. ben/ michigan

My pet HATE is all you ill informed people talking about Detroit Diesels They are NOT SUPERCHARGED (that would mean that the cylinder is pressurized with more than atmospheric pressure by the blower before piston starts to compress which is not the case) Turbocharged Detroit engine is a different matter Yes they have a blower which is solely for scavenging the cylinder as they are 2 stroke engines and do not use crankcase compression
@russvoight11678 ай бұрын
Great bit of information
@hoost30567 ай бұрын
People forget that the BLOWER to scavenge the cylinders has been used as a supercharger.Anyhoo, carry on😊
@briggsquantum7 ай бұрын
Drew - you are exactly correct. GM called them "blowers" because that's all they did, blow air into the airbox for scavenging. GM also called them "naturals" because the pressures did not make for "super" charging, only charging. I had a couple of 6-71N's in my boat, 310 hp naturals with high compression and advanced cam timing. Magnificent engines.
@bertgrau39342 ай бұрын
@@briggsquantum That's not 100 % correct. I had a 79 Freightliner, 8V92TTA I put a pressure gage on it, at idle it would put out 3-4 PSI, at 2100 RPM it put out, 9-10 PSI not much still some. I knew a gentleman that changed the gears that drive the blower, he claimed at 2100 RPM it put out just over 20 PSI. I don't know If you can gear the blower to run that fast or not. That's what I was told.

@AustinEh Жыл бұрын

@sha1om Жыл бұрын
Technically it’s not defined as a supercharger, because the air comes out at the same pressure it went in. It’s just being moved, not compressed. If you put that Roots blower on a gas engine, then it would be a supercharger.
@meatball1324657980 Жыл бұрын
@AustinEh due to the way the engine is designed, it needs that blower to create positive pressure in the cylinder to scavenge the exhaust out. On a 4 cycle engine, it would be a supercharger, because 4 cycle engine can naturally aspirate without aid. Being that this is 2 cycle, it's just a blower and considered naturally aspirated
