I do miss this sound. 1975 International COE Transtar 2 with the Silver 8V92. I made a lot of long nose conventionals with 400 Cats and Cummins mad at me when I'd pass them😆 with the straight pipes!
@slimchancetoo4 жыл бұрын
Yep -- see my comment above. Backing off was the better choice than trying to out-pull you. But without getting into an argument with you I doubt a factory spec Silver 92 (I drove several at high gross rates and sometimes multiple trailers) could take on a Cat 400 or even a Cummins 400 for pulling power. I built (had built for me actually) a single drive Co4070 pulling volume freight -- now that was unbeatable in the hill climbing stakes with its 15 speed direct and later 9 speed overdrive. Not fast with the 15 but jet propelled with the factory 9 o/d. Where o/d stands for overdrive NOT overdosed.

Questions: I'm looking into buying an 8v92t truck. How heavy are your loads on average, what's your rear gear ratio, and finally, what's your average MPGS? Thank you so much for your help. BTW she sounds GREAT!
@tomromanski79253 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, this truck hauls 80 to 90k loads every day. All local stuff, within 100 mile radius. This truck was built for the highway, has 3.70 gears with 13 speed overdrive trans. Will do 65 70 with a load no problem on flat ground. Good avg speed is 60. I get about 5 mpg, which isn't bad for a 40 year old truck, but that's also local driving. Haven't really had a long run to see highway mileage. If you're looking to buy one to use every day, they are very reliable, not much to go wrong. But if there is a problem, you better know someone who can work on them if not yourself, because it's real hard to find a good mechanic who still knows how to work on a 2 stroke detroit. And there are still plenty of parts available if you need them too.. But there sure is nothing better than that sound. Good luck!

I run the truck locally, so driving through neighborhoods with straight pipes would probably make a lot of people angry. @@88BroughamLS, these engines are very reliable, if maintained correctly and proper oil is used.
