9/17/1989 NO at GB -- Lambeau Field

Here from week 2 of the 1989 season is the Saints playing the Packers in historic Lambeau Field, a game where the Saints took a huge lead early on before gradually letting it slip away in the end.

The start of the Cardiac Pack. One of four one-point victories that season. I remember how exciting the Packers' games were that year and how much fun it was with Don Majkowski, Sterling Sharpe, Chris Jacke, and Tim Harris!

To me this was the best game for the Pack from the 1989 season. Not the Instant Replay game vs. The Bears. This game propelled the Packers to have their winning season.

Incredibly rare game. This one never pops up. Great upload. As a diehard Packers fan, you guys absolutely got hosed that day!

I learned later that what was happening under that original version of instant replay (1986-91 seasons) was the replay officials over the course of time were feeling more & more sorry for the field officials when they made mistakes & often that sympathy was leading to said replays not being overturned when they should have. As you likely know, most replay officials were former game day officials. Hence, that connection leading to the sympathy.

One of the few times the Packers wore white at home. This was the best game of the 1989 season. Not the Bears instant replay game. Packers were down 24-7 at halftime and came back and won 35-34.

I was 11 years old for this game. I'm still pissed about it. This led to a slow start. Then, the refs screwed us again against SF in the dome when Jerry Rice fumbled on the 2 yard line but was not called. (That was the first game i saw from the loge level) Then, Hebert gets benched, he and the team fight in the offseason so they have no QB in 1990, which squanders the best of Mora's defenses. 2 lost seasons and it started with this game.

It only happened twice! This week, and the week before against Tampa. Infante's thinking was that they would be cooler in the early Sept. temparatues.

Considering how bad the Packers were at Lambeau Field in the 80s, maybe wearing the road whites were an advantage for this game 🙂
