The marine engines are/were amazing things, but really acoustically they come alive with some load on them. The ones I used to be familiar with always sounded a bit lumpy at idle and just off idle, just like this one did to be honest, but up to around 3,000rpm they run quite smoothly, towards about 5,000rpm they sound pretty angry but that last 5,000 - 7,500rpm there is no other noise like it. My specific car obsession is 90% about engine noises, and those gold 8.2s with 5 tonnes of boat to hurl through the water were without doubt the best engine sound I've ever known in my life.

Awesome to see one of the Lambo offshore engines being showcased. Back in 2018 Victory Team from Dubai ran a pair of these engines in one of their boats at the World Championship in Key West. The noise was unreal! It’s the last of an era, as many of our boats were powered by them. Now it’s all twin turbo V8’s

@@famousbowl9926 each engine has its place and they all sound great in their own unique way.. That marine motor just sounds GOOD. There are MUCH louder and far more annoying marine gasoline motors for pleasure offshore boats. They crackle at a deafening idle even when you are 200 feet away from them. Usually its a twin set up, but some boats keep all three motors going. The center one is not needed to dock the boat, but the owners want everyone within 600 yards to know how much power their go fast toy has. I used to live at Miami Beach Marina. So, I would know. The TONE on that Lambo motor is fantastic. Deep and growling. It likely screams at 6000RPM, but has such a great idle.

Conpletely different. This is a L902 9,3 liter, 2 valves per cylinder and 5.500 rpms. max. They idle well and is a "consumer" engine for ragular fast boats. We have one ourselves. Rated at 630 hp. in 1987. Sold with MerCruiser hydraulic Velvet (Borg Warner) transmission and Super Speed Master #3 and #4 drives. The race engines were first from 1984 carb engines like this, and from 1989 (ish) they were fuel injected 8,0 and 8,2 liter engines (homologated for U.I.M. Class1 racing). The co-operation with Mercury was dropped because the reliability of the Lambo were so much better than their own pushrod V8s, but of course needed a good mechanic to tune six double Weber carbs. Lambo made a few 9,3 EFI engines too, but they sere never really in seremies production. In the mid 90ies the L804 with fuel injection were used by many teams and won the world championship many years. Victory Team in Dubai bought it all from Lambo after Audi bought Lambo. I have 5 of these engines for sale. Theee brand new L902 and also two L904.
