I'd try trimming up the big motor up when using the kicker - might get better speed. Water resistance goes up as a square of the speed (double the speed, water resistance goes up 4X).

We utilize the big motor to steer the boat so we don’t have to sit on the back and make adjustments. We lock the tiller in a straight motion so we can do everything else normal. We do put the backplate all the way up however that doesn’t make a huge difference. We would take it out of the water all the way but because of that reason we don’t. Interesting fact about waster resistance I had no idea! We will certainly run a test like that in the future though! Thank you for your feedback and watching!

Attach the trolling motor to the steering mechanism. Then you can lift the big one. I would bet you would see a step up. I use that 9.9 ro push my 6k sailboat around when not sailing. It sits at 6.5 mph amd my boat isn't designed to plane.

Impressive to say the least. And I’m over here wondering if my 9.9 will be ok on my little 17.5 aluminum bass boat. I don’t wanna go fast just be able to cruise around the lake. Pretty sure I’ll be just fine now.

Sweet little setup. I was wondering how the fuel was rigged. Is there a feature that lets you lock the tiller straight or is there even a need for that? Thinking it might turn when you steer with big motor
@brianblizzard7591 Жыл бұрын
There is a tension lever that keeps it straight.

I've been researching whether to get a 9.9 or a 15 for my inflatable 11 ft dinghy. Weight and size has been biggest consideration. This awesome video really helps. Thanks man

Awesome! I'm glad you found this video useful! Thank you for watching! The 9.9 pushes this larger boat pretty easily!

Lift the big motor up out the water, any more mph gain with less drag?
@SeaShift7 ай бұрын
We have tried that and did only gain about 0.2-0.3 MPH

Was wondering if that was a Pro Kicker or just a regular 9.9 and what shaft length?
@brianblizzard7591 Жыл бұрын
It’s just the standard Mercury 9.9 with a low pitch prop. The shaft length is 15 inches. I wanted as light weight as possible. I’m happy with the results.

I was wondering what hp for a kicker on my 230 cc Bulls Bay, you just answered my question. Awesome getting a Suzuki 9.9 as a back up for 200hp suzuki. Just feel alone safer crossing over to bimini if something would happen. Thanks again

9.9 would be a perfect fit in my opinion. We will be crossing to west end in June with my dads boat and mine, so excited. Safe travels and hope it works out! Good choice with Suzuki 😉

When you have a displacement hull, (or if you have a planing hull but are operating below planing speed) you need 8x the power to go twice as fast. This works in reverse too. So a 9.9 horse motor should be able to drive you half as fast as a 79.2 horse motor.
@SeaShift4 ай бұрын
@@Bloodgod40 I did not know that. That’s interesting though and thank you for sharing! We will start searching for a 79.2hp motor 😂

i have a 4.25 fiber boat with half cabin, and its max speed is 5.3 miles with 9.9hp engine. so your boat's dynamics have to be well.

Now why aren't all of you guys wearing your red flannel lumberjack pants like the motor operator . You're deep in the Florida Everglades and theres no telling what could happen out there . I bet ya he's the only one that remembered to bring an ax and a waffle iron with him .

Trim up the main stern and you will move another mph
@SeaShift Жыл бұрын
We used the jackplate and trimmed it all the way up, we keep the big motor in the water to turn so we don't have to sit on the back with the little motor. We could still trim the motor itself up to create less drag correct! Maybe a future test for us to see how it handles and MPH.
