So I'm sitting here watching this and thinking about when Micheal first started hosting the show. I was so unsure and the change scared me! But here we are, years later, with him being (in my opinion) one of the best presenters on the platform. Sci show has brought some of the best and most easily digested content to my life through all 3 of your mind blowing hosts, so thank you for making my last few years a happier and smarter place to be! :)

+Ryan Probably because they don't 'outlive' us. At most I've seen 30 years? Up to 10 days in space is incredible. The creatures aren't meant to stand [extreme] conditions long but rather meant to resist them, but that's just my theory. A biological theory, thanks for reading.

The tardigrade isnt as impressive as most people say
@tonydai782
@tonydai782 5 жыл бұрын
when the tardigrade goes in its curled up form, it can resist a lot of stuff but when in normal conditions, it is just as prone to death as anything else
@tonydai782
@tonydai782 5 жыл бұрын
also tardigrades wouldn't continue thriving in any of those conditions in the video, as long as the conditions last for long enough as they can't perform normal functions while in that "sleeping" state

@scishow what do you mean when you said the antarctic toothfish swims in places so cold that its tissues should freeze solid. as far as i know anything below 0 (+/-) gets frozen and floats on the ocean surface, hence all water inside the ocean should be around 0. what am i missing here? are there colder waters than that?

+Merik Malhads fair enough, but at least that gives them a chance to live until conditions are better, right? I was also thinking about how they can survive many times more the dose of lethal radiation than humans can, so in a nuclear fallout they'd probably be fine :)

As animals go, humans are terribly fragile and bad at adapting to change. Our advantage is our aggression and the ability to alter nature to our needs. We can create fire, build shelter and shade, bring water to barren lands, harvest it out of our own waste if necessary, and in the modern age we created the possibility of a nuclear armageddon, and we built shelters to try and survive that too. Yet almost any sustained unfavorable conditions can kill us. Heatstroke, hypothermia, radiation poisoning, dehydration. Hell, if nothing else does us in there's always cancer and our own hatred of ourselves.

+felixthecrazy Probably because they don't 'outlive' us, as far as generations or evolution? At most I've seen 30 years? Up to 10 days in space is incredible. The creatures aren't meant to stand [extreme] conditions long but rather meant to resist them, but that's just my theory. A biological theory, thanks for reading.

When the video stated that a lot of insects would survive a nuclear apocalypse in addition to cockroaches, I thought of Fallout 4. Radroaches are just the tip of the iceberg of radioactive bugs you might be up against. Not only do you have mutant scorpions and wasps to deal with, but there's also the matter of Mirelurks, which are essentially gigantic crab/lobster/shrimp/prawn-like creatures that come in several shapes and sizes.
