SciShow are the ones who insisted on making a video format. They could easily write an article that has all of this information in text format, but since they chose video, they deserve to be criticized for doing a bad job. It's nothing about judging her appearance, it's her qualification and ability to narrate that is in question. Sure, a couple rude people are mentioning the nose ring, but maybe even that is justifiable. Would you want your surgeon to look like Olivia or would you prefer a clean-cut, well kept person with no facial piercings? Nothing but extensive speech therapy will change the way she speaks, which is extremely grating and objectively bad. The vocal fry, the inflection that makes everything she says sound like a question, and the strange pauses make her a horrible speaker.

@otakunfranks8145
@otakunfranks8145 6 жыл бұрын
omzig18 This is asked a lot, and it does seem like it is a weird thing to start, but given that we naturally drink milk as infants, and then can easily watch a calf do the same it isn't a large leap to an early 'person' thinking something along the lines of, 'maybe there is some useful nutrition and energy in there, let's see.' Well probably not that thought, but maybe more like oooh, new food?!? Especially given some of the obvious similarities between cows and humans, even early people could easily see this as something potentially useful.

Terry Ng *Like all credible scientists do. There are a great many scientists who state opinion and hypotheses as fact, which discredits them to anyone who knows better. I do not watch Fox News, and don't know who "Dr Oz" is, but I assume that's meant to be a political jab, which has no place in a discussion of science. Every news source will have bias in anything they cover. It's just a matter of what that bias is and how much it impacts their presentation of the information.

I don't think it's a sexism thing. People find her talking to be a little akward. I disagree and people saying she goes off track obviously don't realize she has a script. Still it's not really a thing about her sex I think people just don't like change since Hank is taking a break.

Your references and sources seem to disagree with your presentation regarding the most populous mammals. Ignoring the StackExchange and Quora references (the latter of which cites the former, and the former of which has no references), your Brittanica article claims there's roughly parity between the number of mice and humans, but your NPR article, which cites FAO, suggests that "everyone agrees" that brown rats radically outnumber humans. How did your final presentation emerge from these sources?

John Brewer thanks for a substantive criticism. I did not research the subject, but I was very disappointed with the list of sources given with the video. A popular science channel rehashing other pop science sources isn't very helpful. Sometimes I think they put too many resources into production values, and not enough into actual content.

Thank you. Presentation is important, but it's not important enough to start getting snooty and demanding about the host. If you're going to criticize, then do it with class. The information the host is providing is much more important than the host's appearance. P.S. The comments weren't necessarily misogynistic, though.
@themightymcb7310
@themightymcb7310 6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Presentation is what dictates the efficacy of the information. A boring professor going super in depth will never teach his students as much as an eccentric one teaching the barebones concepts. The point is that some people find her upwards inflection distracting, and that can certainly interfere with their ability to focus on what she is trying to convey.
