I don't think that this is scary at all. The reason it sounds a bit weird, is to prevent advanced bots from hearing the codes that's being mentioned. If you listen carefully, it says some cifres and letters on the recording. So, they mix the code with a lot of distorted, and confusing sounds to make it harder to understand. What they did was they had to make the numbers not easily distinguishable. Basically the bot would hear both the ambience and random sounds, distorting the numbers. For a human, you can still hear the numbers clearly because you block out the random noise in the back

Ava Limited Is this really so inexplicable to ppl? There’s probably millions of captchas generated per day, and it’s not like a person is putting it together, a computer is. A computer doesn’t see much difference between a scream and static or anything else, I wouldn’t be surprised if it randomly pulls off saved audio (So google has all of youtube, Facebook has everything posted on it, etc.), or distorts audio in random ways. Happening thousands of times per minute, it’s really no surprise that some sound creepy. Hell, if your car has bluetooth, call your phone from another and turn up the speakers, you’ll hear some very weird and potentially creepy sounds as the audio feeds back and forth. Also this dude’s saying a captcha unbanned him? Never heard of being banned from gmail, I suppose it’s possible it can look for bot activity and suspend any suspicious accounts until someone uses a captcha, but that would mean the guy was using a bot for spamming, and I wouldn’t trust a word. Even if so, refer to above explanation. This is all quite straightforward.

Jeez, he really long-winded this one. All of these can literally be boiled down to selective hearing. The audio version of the captchas are all jumbled up to prevent robots coming in. Robots will try to decipher everything within the audio instead of picking out numbers or letters (mostly numbers). While people can use selective hearing to pick numbers out of the jumbled and hellish mess that is the captcha.

I *sometimes* use audio for captchas to understand some of the letters and numbers written on it, but instead, I was goin' through hell for a sec there. Gave me goosebumps for the rest of the day. Never used audio captchas ever again. Edit:Especially the echoes gives me the creeps too 😱
