Decluttering. Even if it sounds pretty cliche, it makes you realise you actually don't need much of the stuff you owned or you were going to purchase. Saves a lot of money hahaha

If you are completely new, starting with things you actively dislike or make you feel bad. I was surprised by how many items I had in my house that reminded me of failed attempts, namely an acoustic guitar lol

Cheng Kit, mate, you know I got it bad when I start shopping for that Braun clock yet again, even though I made baby steps to stop doing that about twelve videos ago lol ^^;;; But in all seriousness, my favourite minimalist baby step is to set up a cardboard box (it's a nice wabi sabi Ikea one) next to my door. In that box every day or so shall be banished the items which I no longer need. The baby step is having the box there to remind you there is a halfway space for your cherished items to serve their next home and make someone else happy. The contents are donated weekly.

I've made a small "backups" drawer - a drawer of things that if they break or run out I need a replacement *now* (eg: one spare phone, one spare pair of glasses, one spare charging cable) and this has helped me get rid of all my backups and multiples. If I can survive a week or two till I can rebuy any replacements - I don't need to keep a backup of it. It's helped me find a balance between decluttering and my "scarcity mindset"
@cassandragurai82384 жыл бұрын
My baby steps, for wardrobe I only keep attires enough for 8 days including work outfits, shoes & undergarments because I do laundry once a week. So extra 1 day attire in case the clothes aren't dry on time. For stuffs, at first I started off with decluttering things I didnt touch/use/like/damage more than 6 months. Then slowly 3 months & finally 1 month. For budgeting, I only limit buying 10 items per month. More than that, will add to the next month budget. I even do a stocklist using Notes app on phone for all the stuffs I use on everyday basis (like shampoo, skincare products, etc) as now I only stick to the same fav brands. I check it every week & I can just tick off the list if it is still available & for unavailable or almost-run-out items, I dont tick it off so it would be easier to see. This way helps me to identify what items I can focus on buying & manage my budget even better because I use the same brands & I can estimate the price cost. Minimalism is not easy at first because we are working adults & everytime it is payday, the urge to buy something as a self reward can be very intimidating. You still can, but limit it to 1 item per month & make sure later on you know what to do with it. 😉 Try to be rational & smart. Ask yourself properly whether you really need to buy something. Can you survive without buying it or will you regret buying it later because you realised you dont use it often. Fyi, I've been a minimalist for more than 2 years. 🤗

I gotta learn to get better at taking baby steps. I always want to rush head first into decluttering and then give up just as quickly. I do the 30 day challenge every so often and it helps not only with minimizing the amount of stuff in my space but also saving money I would have spent on nonsense items. I only allow myself to purchase food and drinks during that time.
@akemilia38094 жыл бұрын
My Problem isnt decluttering, my problem is not knowing how to get rid of the stuff responsibly. Sadly there is not just one place where you can dump it all and it will be reused. And not all places take everything I have. I find myself with lots of stuff I dont know where I can take it. I'ts mostly miscellaneous things. I've tried to sell many items online but that didnt work as well. And I dont have the time nor the energy to sit down and sacrifice lots of time for it. And its even harder if you live in two places...

I had successfully gone minimalist. Sort of completed my journey around January 2020. Then covid screwed it all up. It got me into investing in survival items (If the time arises). From fire starters to cordage to tent to at least 30-40 items. Stocked up on food and water too. And at least 50 MRE packs (family of 4). You're right... the path to minimalism is a really tough one.

It's difficult with multiple areas of outdoor life such as camping and tools and parts that you get rid of and need later in a pinch. Or every day carry safety and survival items. I could be in town one part of the day and in the woods the next animal contact has been an issue for me so being prepared has me carrying extra things to camp and stay dry and warm. Bushcraft and camping are hobbies hobbies for me. I also have concerns about having none of my things to stay safe. There's something deeper to it. I also have music equipment I. E. electronics for recording old but still good. My music is a discipline. And ironically my form of music and purism minimal effects all voice music " beatboxing is the most minimalist music firm in the world. Ive got indecisive problems. In buscraft using less and ultralight camping are things that are alluring to be good at. I figured a baby step for me with my depression is to watch a video I chose this video because you said baby steps and that is where I'm at more of a crawl. Thank you man

I've been slowly going into a more minimalist lifestyle. I am still in the process of reducing in stuff. I've come a long way and have a ways to still go. I kind of live by the rule of, what purpose does this item have to me? And have I messed with it in six months? If no, I ask myself have I even touched it this month. If it is still no. I get rid of it. No matter what it is. I legit came home from work today and started emotionlessly started just tossing stuff and cleaning in general. My mom is puzzled by how easily I can just (toss/give away) get rid of my stuff. Earlier she was like, why are you throwing that away and I responded with... Because I can.

Such a great video, Cheng! Baby steps are the most suitable for me in my journey to minimalism. Always start with small changes, and acknowledge how you feel and take it step by step. Enjoy this journey, make it easier and take your time to adapt to change. Don't be so drastically, as you want to declutter everything in just one day. The change is major and you have to make sure you want this before you get rid of all your stuff. Once you feel comfortable living with less, you can start to do bigger things and major changes in your lifestyle. You'll see how your life get easier and how minimalism contribute to simplify your day by day life. You'll almost get addicted how simple and beautiful life is when you don't own so much things and you say bye-bye to making decisions stress and struggle. Beautiful edited video, always love your way of filming, Cheng! I remember your first video... "LOST" and i hope minimalism helped you to find yourself and find your purpose. You're so talented, i think this is your path.

Something I myself am having trouble with is with one of my hobbies which CAN get a bit expensive: Golf, one thing I am already doing is when I go to play a round I will just do 9 holes instead of 18 which halves the price of a full 18 round, but and Issue I'm having is cutting down on the number of clubs in my bag, while the maximum allowable number of clubs is 14 there is no minimum, but as anybody who plays will tell you different clubs are used for different situations, and I've seen stuff from people on how they got the numer of clubs in their bag down 7 or 8, and I'm trying to figure out how I can do that.
