Few players will take a cross corner bank [off the knuckle of a side pocket] on when they think they can cut it in the side. Even though the safety is there if they miss. Instead they try then miss and leave an open table. I've seen Reyes and Bustamante with that kind of acumen, but the daring of those kind of chances intimidate most. Those kind of daring shots, when they come off are the most beautiful things to see in a game.

I think the prime age for a pool player is 30 years old, that is old enough to have a lot of experience, but not so old you get tired from playing long tournaments. So I would say look out for Filler when he is 30 years old, he will probably be the best player in the world, if not before he turns 30, maybe 27 or 28 years old, and he is almost there now.

@MrJdsenior2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffm5991 They did, they went on about it forever, as it's a pet peeve with Mark, and I agree with him. I have suggested other simple ways to implement determination directly, but nobody cares. They'd rather just complain about the current rule. In some tournaments they leave it to the ref, which actually works better, MHO. The players usually get a warning before they get it called, if they ever do end up getting it called. Obviously they would just call an intentional slow break. 42:36
@MrJdsenior2 жыл бұрын
At least the magic rack has a useful function. It's the damned racking dots on those tables that drive me nuts. That Mount Everest has totally screwed me out of a game more than once. What's wrong with a damned marker? You can do more with it anyway, like mark for accurate rack placement, and it presents NO obstacle? The day one of those spots ends up on my table will be a cold day in hell. Most pros prefer the magic rack, or equivalent, from what I've heard in interviews, for the racking tightness, so I guess they figure that is more of a benefit than the occasional problems it causes. With worn out hall balls that have way too many years of use on them, or worse, where unmatched balls have been replaced into a rack to replace individuals that get stolen (WTH?), a magic rack does nothing for you anyway, MHO. I guess these unprincipled morons go around to different halls and steal balls one by one until they get a totally unmatched ancient worn out set. Some people are beyond belief, and beyond stupid. They aren't THAT expensive when you compare them to the other costs of having a typical table, and the accessories required, rack, other cue sticks, stick rack, light, occasional cloth replacement (more than the balls right there, even cheaply bought new Aramith pros or equivalent, and the 'required' posters and prints. And don't get me started on the idiots playing with cigarettes with an inch long ash hanging off them until it drops, which I've seen several times. You think a magic rack is a problem, play on a table with a hole burned in the cloth. The spot problem very rarely happens either, but having a problem, ever, with its stupid beyond useless benefits irks me. Hell, Van Boening and some others used to play entire games with the rack in place, especially when their were highly critically placed ball ALMOST interfering that could easily come out interfering after the placement device was used. They are very good, but not perfect. I saw Corey Duele have a cue ball cleaned that was BARELY obstructed once, hoping it would clear on replacement. It didn't and the commentator was quipping that he should have it cleaned again. These smart pros do not miss a trick. I thought it was funny. At the hall we just use a couple of pieces of chalk when the problem arises, which is less accurate, or the side of the hand on the table careful lift minutely and replace, which is less accurate yet.
@chrisolson32402 жыл бұрын
Break rules are absolutely ruining 9ball. You can make a ball on the break but 3 balls don't pass the head string and it's a foul. Stupid, absolutely stupid.
@AccuStats2 жыл бұрын
I agree. We won't be using that rule at the 2022 International 9-Ball Open.
@harper6262 жыл бұрын
Darrin made two balls on break but gave up turn?
@AccuStats2 жыл бұрын
There is a 3-point rule on the break. You get a point for each ball pocketed and a point for each ball that passes the head string. Score less than 3 and it's a non-compliant break. The opponent has the option of shooting or giving it back to the breaker.
@MrJdsenior2 жыл бұрын
@@AccuStats Yeah, dumb arbitrary inconsistent rule to fix the problem. How about leave it to the ref's call? Kenny is more than capable, as is every other pro ref I see. They most certainly know what a soft break looks like and that dumb rule calls them on it when it is not, as in the break being referenced here. The ref usually gives a warning, from what I've seen if he thinks a players break is marginal before calling it anyway, unless it was just obviously intentional, for the reasons it was outlawed. I guess I'm talking to Pat here? I've suggested about three other better ways to fix it, how about listening, whoever is the appropriate person with the call? They've dropped it in other tourneys, fixing it with the above method. And while I'm on it, keep jump shots if you must, but rule out jump cues. For pros that seems reasonable to keep game difficulty at a reasonable level. I've heard MANY pros say that, too, including grouchy (on table, in matches) Strickland.
