First of all; your enthusiasm is contagious! However, my two recommendations, would be Bucharest, Romania and Tirana, Albania. As a solo traveller, I hardly go to restaurants. However, those two cities have many great museums, beautiful architecture (especially Bucharest), and a very interesting history. AND they are very affordable!

I'm a solo traveler and go to restaurants all the time. Just not expensive ones. I hate cooking in an apartment and eating alone when I could be outdoors exploring and eating at a place that looks interesting (always ask locals for recommendations!). I found the key to food savings is to eat a light breakfast and then dinner (or whatever meal they offer) between 3 and 5 p.m. Dinner typically costs twice as much as lunch. You can snack a bit during the day (buy a to go sandwich and coffee and enjoy your lunch in a central park!). Just my input.

Last year I travelled Poland. Three cities Krakow, Wroclaw, Warsaw I visited. Peoples there are really beautiful and cordial, helpful. In two cases I was in trouble to buy tram tickets, when I asked help from fellow passengers then they simply bought tickets for me and my wife. When I tried to repay in cash they simply refused to take with smile. I remember their warmth for an unknown tourists like us.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the feeling of coming out of the train station in Monastiraki straight from the airport, and turning around and seeing the acropolis for the first time. Truly amazing (and the food in Athens is super cheap and delicious)

Emily Clement: If you ever go to Athens again you should visit the neighbourhood of *Anafiotika* It's located directly below the Acropolis and one of the first neighbourhoods of Athens. It's full of neo-classic houses and if you climb high enough you'll see magnificent views of the city. I discovered it when I was getting lost in the winding streets. Lovely! Also I discovered a lake in southern Athens. It was called *Lake Vouliagmeni* and is located in the suburb of Vouliagmeni and approx. a 30 minute taxi ride form down-town Athens. Worth it.

@tilikumtim5562

It's only expensive depending on where you eat and the type of accomodation you stay at. I rented a one bed apartment a few minutes from the old town (had an amazing balcony view) for 50 eur/night. And I didn't eat out in restuarants in the old town as they charge a lot. Most things to do in Dubrovnik don't require spending much money. I wouldn't necessarly include it in a list of the most inexpensive cities in Europe to visit though, as there are cheaper alternatives, although very few places compare to it.

I used to see Croatian cities in the list of "cheap places" in many blogs. I think their price blew up thanks to Game of Thrones, and then now people are starting to go to Croatia after they placed 2nd in the world cup. Zagreb is still a lot cheaper, but everybody keep saying it's not really worth visiting long.

I'd love to do as much of "The Grand Tour" as I physically and financially can, so I would encourage you to consider doing a series in that vein. It seems to be a wide open spin on travel genre that hasn't been addressed very well as of yet. Could get you a bigger audience!!! Excellent advices overall. The key for the tourist to get a less hectic and more value oriented travel is to avoid those huge metropolitan areas in Europe, where it is always crowded and most tourists tend to congregate, thus competing for services, such as hotels, restaurants, museums etc. Also, it is in these places, where the danger of pickpockets and sundry tourist scams are the most acutely present. In a way, the same goes for capital cities most of the time. That's why I particularly loved the Krakow, Dubrovnik, Porto, Valencia suggestions. In this more adventurous spirit, I'd substitute Prague with Brün, or Budapest with Pécs, Szeged, or Debrecen.

My patents moved from UK to General Toshivo in Bulgaria a few years back. It's right near Dobritch and Varna and also a short drive from Costantine in Romania. Bulgaria is a beautiful country, the people are so nice and when I first visited with my wife and kids the locals would often stop us as we walked by their houses and run inside for gifts for the kids such as fruit and colouring books. At the local bar we struggled to buy our own drinks as every time we went someone had already bought our next round for us! Nasdrave!!

I've traveled to Prague several times. Back in 2000 it was manageable, but now it's so incredibly crowded all year long except during winter. Spring months are overrun with school groups from other Euro nations. Lots of scams and shady characters in the tourist areas. Cabs scam tourists. I recommend Brasov, Romania. We rented a car and drove from the Bucharest airport. We didn't have time to visit Bucharest. Brasov is near the Carpathian Mountains and within a manageable drive to Bran (Dracula's) Castle and other cool sites. Great food too! My biggest regret is only spending 3 days there. Needed more time. I agree with Krakow. It's my favorite Eastern European city. Beautiful sites, great food, affordable, and friendly people.

Great vid, and great to see places not nearly as oft mentioned as other European destinations. Been to several - Prague, Porto and Lisbon - loved them all. Prague was a nice, inexpensive side trip from Germany, which was already mostly fairly priced. Did Porto and Lisbon after a month in Spain back several years ago. Was sort of an afterthought - "hey, we're already in the peninsula, why not?" I really liked Lisbon, but (very walkable) Porto was the surprise of an action packed trip. Hoping to visit a bunch of the rest this year.

Absolutely agree with you Mark! Honorable mention: Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Cheap cheap (and I come from a cheap country) with traces of the Yugoslavia's war(I personally like that), friendly people, the greatest preserved Ottoman architecture in Europe. Cons: it's not that easy to get there, it's touristic. But is a great cheap pearl!

Mark, I love your selections as I've been to 8 of the 9 or 10 cities except the 2 in Lavia & Estonia you've mentioned. If I may, I would also add Istanbul, Turkey, Sofia, Bulgaria & Skopje, North Macedonia to the list. I really like Istanbul as it's the only place on earth that resides between the 2 continents, Asia & Europe & you can take a 20-minute ferry for only about 1 Euro to go from 1 side to the other. I've never seen a place w/ so many people in my life, especially Taksim Square so it's like a zoo but I love, love it. Anyway, you're a cool guy & funny as heck.
