I love the song Ich Will so very much. I think so many of us feel that way. I love that the crowd replies because I imagine that this song is not unlike a situation where someone is feeling invisible, not realizing, or maybe not feeling, that others are there for them or can understand what they are feeling. Despite my love for this song I will definitely try using the options you taught us today!

Ich hätte (gerne) is more apropriate when you are ordering food in a restaurant. For example : Ich hätte gerne ein Steak. The direct translation is : I'd like to have ...

Ich will comes across as demanding and is viewed as inpolite in German conversations. Though if you say "Ich will am New York Marathon teilnehmen" put emphasis that you really eager and hard working to achieve this goal, while "Ich möchte ..." just comes across as a wish.

Too bad Get Germanized didn't explained in beginning that "ich will" comes accross as very demanding and is often viewed as inpolite or even rude in German conversations. It's a classic that German parents correct their small kids when they are saying "ich will ... " they should better say "ich möchte...".

@@RelaxMode1 Ich habe einen Freund, der kam von Mexiko, im Elternhaus haben sie Plattdeutsch gesprochen, in Mexiko teilweise in Deutsche Schule gegangen, ging zu eine Deutsche Kirche, kam hier her nach Kanada lernte schnell Englisch, verliebte sich mit ein deutsches Mädchen, das junge Paar entschlossen sich nach Deutschland zu ziehen, er bekam sofort Arbeit weil er so viele Sprachen konnte, als salesman, Deutsch Englisch Spanisch, musste aber zur Schule gehen, dann schrieb er mir, er dachte er könnte gut Deutsch, er merkte jetzt das er steckte in den Kinderschuhen 😊

Ich hätte and ich möchte are interchangeable, but in some cases one of them makes more sence. Hätte comes from haben (to have) and möchte is more like would like. So ich hätte makes more sence if you order food for examble (Ich möchte die Peperoni-Wurst Pizza - I want the pepperoni pizza) and ich möchte for things like Ich möchte mit dir tanzen - I would like to dance with you.

@@barryrahn5957 yes, as a general rule you can say it this way. Hätte is kinda material, möchte more non material. Ich hätte gerne a Ferrari and ich möchte gerne bungee springen (would like to bungee jump). But you could also say ich möchte a Ferrari and ich hätte gerne einen Bungee-Sprung. (I would like to have a Ferrari and I want a bungee jump) even tho this would sound a bit strange, technicly it would be correct, that's what I mean with they're interchangable. You'll get a feel for it pretty fast.
