we'll consider these ideas with my pedagogical partner, too. we're both TEFL trainees and we're learning to teach English to YLs as a foreign language. we're considering breaks for our lesson plans. the target SS? 10 year-olds, A1 SS at a language school. they're 12 in total. the classroom's small and it's got orderly rows, but desks and chairs are movable. thanx in advance to anyone who answers!

wow!! brilliant ideas! I'll try them with my niece first and later with very young learners. has anyone tried them in primary school? I hope to hear some interesting replies!

I use brain/movement breaks extensively with grades 1-2 students and it helps immensely. I make sure to do a focusing activity right after a break that is more energetic. For example, after a dance party, I have students do a "hook-up" with their hands or heel-to-toe walking. Simple, but effective- especially when implemented school-wide. We also hook-ups for active students in assemblies to calm them down as well as before or after transitions throughout the school day. Ideally, the students begin to realize why and when they need a hook-up and choose to do it themselves. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYCwea1jfbhnr7s
