I agree, modern AAA games are a garbage fire, but Valve actually cares about their IP's, its part of the reason they haven't been releasing any new mainline games. Especially because what set Half Life apart was innovation. There's.. really not much left in the FPS space they could possibly innovate on. Almost every aspect of FPS games has been tuned to a science since the days of Half Life 2. Graphics, physics, maneuverability, gunplay, multiplayer, story, there's just really nothing that hasn't reached a hard limit of innovation. No game has done all of those things at once, but that's a crazy tall order to do that, and still doesn't qualify as innovative. The only reason Alyx worked is because there was still lots of room in the VR shooter space for innovation. Still is, but a hell of a lot less than when Alyx released, and it doesn't sound like this will be a VR title anyway. So really, I just don't see a reason for it to exist anymore. It's not old enough to nostalgia farm, yet too old to still have mass appeal. Its story wasn't captivating enough to demand continuation.

To give you an idea how long we've been waiting for Half Life 3 ? I was 37 now 61 and still waiting lol

​​@@SP-qi8ur They patented their Nemesis system (procedurally generated enemy factions with particular members remembering their observations with the player ( and those interactions, as well as interactions between other members of their group, agreed their position on the faction) ) So no-one can try adding something similar without paying WB for a license, or risk being sued for patent infringement. Which means we most likely won't get anything similar in about 25 years, of I'm not mistaken. Or someone could try to appeal that it's not actually innovative and someone reasonably skilled in programming could have come up with that...

Crossing my fingers for Half-Life 3 offering multiple campaigns giving us the perspective of the members of different factions from less notable members. Maybe even a regular anti-citizen, a regular CP who climbs the ranks until he's brainwashed and augmented into a full OTA. I know modders have given some of this but to see it done by Valve would be awesome. I'm a big fan of the lore and world of Half-Life and feel like they could do a lot with this!

I read two articles about Half Life 3 that I definitely agree with. Firstly, they said it doesn't have to do anything crazy and revolutionary (which I have a feeling it would cause Valve always makes games that lead the gaming space), it just needs a good story and great gameplay to be a great game. Secondly - Thinking about maybe this game concluding the Half Life story. As much as I would love a Half Life 4 (if HL3 is even a thing), the time that is put into this franchise, it might be satisfying for 3 to be the sendoff to the franchise. And even if they did conclude it, it obviously doesn't mean they couldn't make more games in the universe.

PSA!!!!! If you don't like or own VR to play HL Alyx, there is a mod available(and a good one) called HL Alyx NoVR. The devs essentially turned the game into a normal mouse and kb title. Please play it. The mod is free and you don't need VR.

For the record I agree that it should be played natively but some people can't drop the cash on a vr set for 1 or 2 games at most. @@DKTronics70 The mod works incredibly well and Alyx does lend itself perfectly fine to a traditional format. No need to be an elitist asshole about this. Ive done the comparison on quest 3 vs the mod and the mod was maybe 2% less fun than Quest 3 due to the lower interactive amount naturally. But for those who cant afford to drop console money on a piece of hardware they might hate, or those who cant deal with the the VR motion sickness effect, the mod is a perfect way to experience the game. Fuck off with your attitude and your opinion. Youre allowed to have that opinion sure but im allowed to tell you its a dumbfuck opinion to have.

One problem for me is my desk being 25" wide and i like having multiple monitors. I'd rather use my oled for just gaming to reduce the chance of burn in and the other panels on browsing and stuff. The oled monitors are definitely coming a long way and are getting cheaper

@davey5361 Yup. I've had mine for 3 years with zero burn in, using it daily. I doubt it's an actual problem unless it's on 24 hrs a day every day for years. A person really has to abuse it for it to get burn in.

Datamining shows that the game will be on PC, and that the character will be wearing an HEV Suit. Also many references to Xen fungi life, and "white sands" being a code name for the game as shown on the portfolio for many voice actors.

@@Blank55600 the idea of it definitely isn't a gimmick half life alyx showed just how good vr games can be. But the pricing and ease of use on top of the small amount of games on it definitely make it come off as one. Eventually it'll get a lot better but who knows how long. Also btw if hlx actually is a new half life a lot of the coding makes it come off as a traditional half life game

Ready at Dawn closure definitely hurts. Daxter was the first game I ever played on my own device and I would replay it again and again until my psp eventually broke, I replayed it recently on my ps5 and still adore the game so much. We don't really see games like that anymore but it's still a kick in the knee hearing that the studio who crafted a giant piece of my childhood is gone. I will always be thankful to the studio and I wish the team the best of luck in moving on to new work
