Today a perceived that how intutive is the order of each video of your channel. At first looked for possible troubles regarding renting a place. Answered. Then thought, public transportation may be confusing too. Bingo, TCC map made feel much more confident about how to travel through the city. And now I am happy to know what me and my wife could wear to overcome the winter, since here in Brazil e never experienced anything below 23 ºC ahhah. Thanks a lot!!!!

Stock up on all essentials. Than stay inside until April . That is how I handle every winter. And, I am 55 years old. And, have lived in Canada on the East Coast since my early childhood. Stock up beginning in September. Pay your electric bill ahead for six months. And, only go out if it’s absolutely necessary. I make an acceptation for my Doctor and that’s it. Hibernation is the best defence against Canadian Winters period .

I'd love to hybernate in the Winter. Strangely, I do enjoy my daily walks, even in the winter, of course, knowing that within half an hour or so I have a warm home to return to.

I agree exercise is important. I invested in my own Treadmill, Bench Abdominal, Weights, Elliptical Machine, and yoga mats. I also, converted a part of my basement into a home gym setup. It affords me the ability to keep my fitness routine up to date. While shuttering in place. 😊

Brand new subscriber here... Thanks for the clothing, etc. suggestions/tips. I have been born and raised near Chicago, lived in NE Ohio for 20+ years, and now living almost 3 years in SE Michigan. Thanks a lot for these tips, straight to the point with great suggestions! I also love how you have suggested beautiful stuff that are affordable (I might come to Quebec next winter for work and I was getting a bit anxious about the budget for winter clothes and how much I should save to be able to buy everything upon arrival). My best surviving item is a grocery veggies plastic bag - transparent one. Get one when going outdoors in crazy cold windy day, put it over my hat save that brain. Speaking about cold, central Canada has got scary cold these past years, Eastern cities like Toronto and Montreal fare much better. It's all about the broken Polar Vortex which is blasting central Canada.

thanks for the tips. I'm coming next month, surprised you didn't mention wearing a scarf in this cold weather?
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
That's a very good point! Many people wear scarves here, but I actually rarely do that. A scarf would definitely make you much warmer. The reason why I'm not that into it is because it adds a lot of bulk and it's more of a hassle to take it off and put it back on again when going out (in addition to gloves and hat!) Suprisingly, I've been fine without a scarf.

Sorry I'm not really an expert about that...I would say similar applies. Try to layer a lot than just having one thick layer. That way you can take off layers when it gets to hot and put on another layer when it's colder, to balance the temperature.

Thank you for sharing. Must the hoodies be fleece/wool, or can it be cotton/polyester?
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
Personally, I think any base material works, as long as there is a 1. It's waterproof, 2. For snowstorms: Has an fur/faux fur extension to keep the snow out. In general, about wool fabrics, make sure you don't have too sensitive skin, because it can get scratchy. Hope that helps!
@angolic2 жыл бұрын
@@LivinginCanada Thank you. I noticed the pullover does not cover your neck, so how do you keep yourself warm in harsh winters? Also, what material do you recommend?
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
Usually the high collar of the jacket does it for me (surprisingly!). I just zip it all the way up. When I don't wear the hood, sometime I wear a scarf. I don't have any favourite material, as long as it's not scratchy. I prefer materials that don't require dry cleaning, for sure. Hope that helps!

Thank you!

@@angolic for Canadian winter clothing... for warmth: wool is best, fleece is next, polyester is last. You will learn to read the labels of clothes. Choose high quality wool so it's not scratchy, example: merino wool, smart wool, or even wool blend. Absolutely no cotton. It's bad for cold weather. If you end up overheating and sweating, you will get sick as cotton will stay wet until you finally undress. The purpose of the base layer (she called it first layer) is to wick the sweat, not for insulation. You need it to be either silk, merino wool, wool blend or polyester. But it has to be fitted, meaning the fabric should come in contact with your skin (not loose or baggy) so it can effectively wick the sweat. Your insulation comes from the mid-layer (she called it 2nd layer) and the outer layer. Mid-layer is any long-sleeved top like hoody, sweatshirt, sweater. You can choose thin, medium or thick mid-layer depending on the weather. Your outer jacket has to be windproof and water-resistant/waterproof, and with a hood. Down-filled and wool are best. Choose material with at least 70% wool for best quality and warmth. Insulated lather is also good. Polyester is my last choice. Mitts are warmer than gloves. Scarf or neck gaiters are a must. You can buy insulated, waterproof and windproof pants for extreme weather. For mild weather, use long johns (base layer tights) under jeans or slacks.

Is it cold even inside the houses?? I'm coming to Canada as a student so I'm not very sure if I should pack more of winter clothes or should I also keep normal tees and pajamas to wear at home because it's heated or should I bring winter clothes to wear inside house also?
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
I would buy most winter clothes here, because there is a wider selection of suitable winter clothing here. I'd suggest to bring enough clothing for 1-2 weeks, and buy the rest here. And yes, it can be cold inside the house to, it depends on how well your place is heated. But you can always layer your clothes for more warmth.
