I came to Seattle when I was in my early 20's and have been here for decades now, so it's interesting to hear your perspective and your expectations. (I'm guessing you've spent time in California when I hear "The" I-5 and "The" Puget Sound!) I hope you continue to get to know and enjoy the city--especially the areas beyond the ones you know now. So much beauty here as you appreciate! And so much more....

I didn't know people didn't call it the Puget Sound. So when you go there you say that you are going to swim in Puget Sound? I have not spent much time at all in California (2 weeks out of my whole life haha). As for "the" I-5, I am likely influenced by my British boyfriend - they put "the" in front of all of their highways. There is so much more of the city to explore, it's one of my goals for the winter - to try to get out and explore the different neighborhoods more!

@@seattletravelguru Yes, so many little verbal oddities that separate the newcomers from the old-timers. Just Puget Sound, although if you are going to swim in those frigid waters, does that mean your British boyfriend has converted you to wild swimming? And then there's Pike Place Market (not Pike's Place) and The Ave (not University Way). And Alki is pronounced alk-eye, not alk-ee. (All of this from someone who initially thought that Rainier might be rainier, as in rainy, rainier, rainiest. Ha.) And the local steamship Virginia V is pronounced Virginia Five. And speaking of ships, do you like Christmas-y things? The Argosy Christmas ships/choirs/bonfire gatherings will be in your area on 12/13 and on 12/23. Oof, I sound like a tour guide

I am from nearby Tacoma and I enjoy visiting, after living on the south east for 20 years and traveling to Spain there is no way I could handle that weather and the clouds!!

haha yea once you know the feeling of near-constant sun on your skin it's hard to live in a place like the PNW. But the summer was pretty spectacular here!

The biggest Seattle struggle is the lack of daylight from Halloween (Nov 3rd) until around Jan 1st. The combination of less daylight hours and more gray, wet days is the real struggle. I count the seconds and minutes we gain back of daylight once with Winter Solstice passes. Bring me more daylight...I can handle the rain.

Yes, the short days feel even harder when there isn't much sunshine to speak of - but I am grateful that it doesn't get too cold, so even though its gray, you can still get outside.
