It’s absolutely amazing to see old cars like these being caned! Most of these cars are stashed away in garages. That’s why Goodwood is my favourite place to be. :)

As amazing as some of these cars are, it's also amazing how some of the more common vehicles get noticed too. People will drop everything and watch as a rare car like the Alfa 308 gets started up in the pits. but always without FAIL, no matter who is driving - if a Mini Cooper drives by people NEVER fail to stop and stare at it .. just one of those wierd parallels that you make note of..

The most impressive thing in this video is the pit stop that last car makes: leaves the pit with 3 spare tires and has them all the way to the FOS diamond jubilee arch, then comes out the other side with 0 spare tires - today’s formula 1 pit crews have got nothing on that!

@@BluntofHwicce thank you. It looks like something from 1950.
@Argent_993 жыл бұрын
it was built for the 1937 racing season and that was the only season it ran (new regs came in for 1938.) building a fairly new design like that for one season only was kinda bonkers by the standard of the age, but it kinda set a trend for Mercedes, who have pulled that sort of tour de force a few times over the ensuing decades. Also, up until 1982, it was considered to be the most powerful GP car ever made, clocking in at around 625hp (on tires with the collective contact patch of a modern motorcycle...)
@sanny87163 жыл бұрын
@@lefranor Look up w154 as well, it looks even more ahead of its time
@jcgabriel15693 жыл бұрын
@@Argent_99 Indeed, making a new car for just one season is bonkers, but then Mercedes themselves did one more when they built the W165 in 6 months or so, to compete in the 1939 Gran Premio di Tripoli, which ended up to be the *only* race it ever ran in. Building a new car from scratch in such a short span of time for, ultimately, just one race...
