Yeah, twists are a big NO for me 😭. The tangling, frizz, and unraveling after I wash is a complete nightmare. That’s why mini braids are my holy grail protective style. I have access to both my scalp and my ends, I can wash frequently without tangling, and I can moisturize and seal as often as I’d like. I install, then redo my head after a month, and take them down every 3 months. I’m able to retain 2 inches within those 3 months. The key is to make them actually mini! I usually do some form of curl on them as well. Sew in weaves and crochet styles leave my hair so brittle and dry they cause nothing but breakage for my hair. I love the diversity of natural hair and how different protective styles work for our hair. Good luck on your 9 month journey! ❤

I love this comment! I am on that same journey with you. Now that my mini braids are growing out, I love the style options. At first I felt like an ugly duckling but now I love it! I get more compliments with mini braids than I did with my dry relaxed hair. I get to moisturize and seal often. I try to leave in between 2-3 months at a time. I get my hair professionally braided because I don’t have the time or patience but I know I’ll eventually need to learn to do them myself. My only regret is not doing this sooner! I’m going for waist length and I’m 50! 😆❤️ Thank you!

Yeah I'm keeping my hair for the rest of the year in 30-36 small braids. I retained a full inch each month (on month 2) and I can still add extensions or a wig for a different look! Going to be taking down these braids in a week's time and then go right back! I can do everything in braids deep condition protein treatments henna etc, they're also getting thicker each time so I know my hair is thickening in the braids!

You can crochet faux locs individually and it’s easy & lightweight and the older they get the better they look. You just box braid your hair & crochet tuck your hair in the loc. you can wash your hair etc. with them in & moisturize etc easily bc your hair isn’t burried. I think it’s the jazzy Nicole method. I’ve done it many times with moisturized hair in the end. I’m installing tomorrow bc anything else my delicate 4C hair just breaks & tangles 🥴. You can also do a crochet wig with marley hair that looks like your texture could be a half wig or full headband wig. I’ve done that too. If I leave hair out bc there’s no heat & it’s just edges I braid it at night & moisturize it often if crocheted in but wig works too. These are my go tos & since you’ve been great at retaining length you should be great my issue length retention bc when I leave my hair out it’s chaos & I was lazy with moisturizing but you taught me well lol. Anyway these styles are tensionless & should support your goals. God bless & thank you for your hair knowledge 🙏🏽

great ideas here! thank you! Will consider the faux locs for sure!

@@CoilyDiaries sis forget what I said about needing a crochet needle! You don’t! As I’m doing it my memory has returned to me. Okay so braid the loop in your box braid with your own hair and what I found was because the loc is tightly coiled you can unwrap it and wrap it carefully around your braid til it’s covered. And that’s that so the only tool you need is a parting tool unless you use your fingers & it’s super lightweight nooooo tension at all. Ok just wanted to update as I was doing them I remembered why I do them 😂. Ok God bless

I’m excited for you and this decision can promote hair growth too. Ms. Beyoncé’s hair has grown very long with this decision. Can’t wait to see how the growth goes. Fun times ahead. I wore one years ago and my hair did grow, my mistake was that I tried to take it down without help. Bad idea for me, but I’m sure you’ve got a better plan and I’ll be following along to watch your length retention journey. You’re going to inspire so many people. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I can't wait to see the different styles you will be doing. I'm here for it!!! My twin ( RIP, sis) and I did my first crochet in 2019, and I kept it in for 2 1/2 months. But because my hair was in cornrows beneath the crochet, my hair was not matted or tangled. That helped to shorten my take down. Hmmm 🤔, so I might consider another crochet style this summer with human hair this time though.

9 months??!! Girlllll 😂 Well, well, well. Ok o 😂 Well I do recall that I once installed faux locs and when I took it down, damn I saw growth😮 but by then, I wasn't knowledgeable on how to take care of my hair so all that length broke up 😂 but nowww, at least I do know enough 😅 and I've been seriously considering repeating that style again but this time, I'll do a crochet 🧶 instead of the braid and wrap method coz that wrapping hurts 🤕. And I do remember that its time and money consuming 😅 but I'll prepare this time. And I used to do sew ins but nah not again, it itchs and no access to my hair. So I'll just buy a wear and remove wig😊 So what you do think about the crochet and the wig, sis?❤ Plus I just want to challenge myself to let my hair rest in a protective style for a few months then see what happens. I want to see RESULTS!!
