Been in the industry for some time. My personal experience has been this, most pest control companies will be able to take care of your average rodent problem. For the cases where the rats or mice have found a way in that is much more difficult to find, you would need a company like these guys. The majority of the time, you can fix an issue by doing only exterior exclusion work. When the rodents get in through a sewer pipe or something like that is where it does complicate things quite a bit. Within that, I honestly believe part of the problem really is that the majority of the pest control companies often times charge too little for a bigger problem. Additionally they don't generally pay that well. Working in rodent control can be potentially dangerous especially if you are going in attics and crawl spaces. This directly influences the problem not being fixed, but only suppressed.
@TwinHomeExperts2 жыл бұрын
Yes, agree. I think it’s the responsibility of a trained technician to make it clear and understand that is a rodent issue is not stopped within 2 weeks or less, then to let the client know, that it’s something deeper and beyond our scope or learn to facilitate a lic subsContractor to get to these entry points, making more money and solving the issue. Thanks for sharing this very informative information. 👍🙏👏
@helenm67322 жыл бұрын
Pay should not determine if you’re going to do a good job. Determine a fair price, then do a great job; old clients will recommend you and new clients will find you.
@Vaelorth2 жыл бұрын
@@helenm6732 I agree, with that if you are a business owner, but most pest control companies will pay you a commission based on the service. Say for example, your office sells a $300 mouse trapping and inspection service, they may pay you anywhere from $30-50 off of that depending on who you work for. It could take you an hour, it could also take you 3 hours if its really bad. This is partially where the companies make the mistake and ultimately don't encourage their workers to do a good job. This is also not factoring in drive time which will vary company to company. Personally, I take pride in giving it my best regardless. However this doesn't change the business model of these large corporations that don't fix the problem like what we see in the video.

Another great video, Twins! It is an utter shame that these people had to suffer for 9 months because a sketchy pest control company refused to do any of the dirty work necessary to identify and resolve the problem. Folks, let’s stop wasting our time and money on these sketchy pest control companies who refuse to do nothing more than patch up a few vents and set some traps. Before hiring any pest control company, ask them if they are willing to crawl through a crawl space, remove insulation, and/or cut through a wall if necessary to solve a case (as part of the service or at least for an extra fee). If they answer no, don’t waste your time and money.

I own a small pest control company and we do rodents jobs every day of the week. I would say for the whole year we probably run into 2-3 of these cases where we pretty much know they have to be coming up through the sewer since everything is closed. But also sometimes you get houses with crazy roofs or just weird design with holes in places that are unbelievable. Sometimes it can take longer than two weeks if you missed something the size of a quarter somewhere. I definitely am upfront about the potential sewer rat problem and that we would do all the trapping leading up to and after that process is taken care of by a plumber. The other thing I struggle with is most pest control companies under charge for rodent work, so when I’m trying to bring in a service that has better exclusion work and uses the best products materials and methods, it’s hard to sell. Only when they’re desperate and have those bad experiences with cheaper companies are they ok with spending the money to hire you guys.
@TwinHomeExperts2 жыл бұрын
This is so TRUE! This is why we got out of the plumbing trade, it’s lost it’s financial stability for us because it became saturated with prices dropping from unlicensed plumbers.
@justinstrickland41992 жыл бұрын
never bend for cheap clients. you get what you pay for and don't undersell yourself if you know your going to do the job right because no one else will. They undercharge because they know they will half ass and get more business because they didn't solve the problem and the customers will still get some activity. Ive come to find this business can be just as shady as mechanics trying to fast talk customers who have 0 mechanical knowledge.

Thats because the customer all their money on Orkin, Grace Exterminating, etc. in Ohio for sure. Where I lived I was 2 blocks from suburbs doing sewer lines. Two more blocks down, I lived in city. They chased everything down the sewer lines and bam, rats. Also trees covering other roofs. Roof rats in an old home. I finally moved, I fear I may have brought something with me. Car was parked next to a fence where hoarders lived and their garage caved in. Again, city, no one cares. Ugh. Poorest people in Hud or section 8 are screwed. Ive had all my clothes chewed, my hair chewed in my sleep, finger and toe bites, and I have COPD and congestive heart failure. I moved and their were those yellow circles on bottom of cupboards. But Grace Ext said, "There has NEVER been rodents here." So I wake up with sticky arms. Mouth smells like urine, bit in "private places." I would sleep in car but its 23 degrees tonight. How do you protect your phone, clothes, chromebook, etc. And how to not cry every night at dusk? Any help would be appreciated. I'm poor and I can't replace everything. They got in totes, bags, drawers, etc. How to live with it till I die?

My furry friends had chewed through the soft-ish toilet pan coupler under the bathroom floor which I sussed out using infrared motion detection cameras. From a fellow pest control industry professional, what I see from many big companies like Orkin, Terminix, etc is that they structure the pay for their techs based on how productive they are. Commission based essentially, which encourages techs to rush jobs and complete as much as they can to make more money. So, they are not spending the time they need at a rodent job like this and they will miss things like that pipe. Which is why my company pays us hourly to avoid that temptation to cram lots of work into a day and encourage quality work. Also there is definitely a lack of training. I have heard stories of tech given maybe a weeks worth of training then set out on their own. To compare, my company trains you for 2 months in the field with training classes sprinkled in. Sadly this situation at this customer's home is very common among our industry. Do your research before hiring a pest control company!
