It's a super efficient way of keeping people in check. If everytime you did something wrong, someone beat up your friend instead of you, you'd be much more likely to follow the rules than if you were the one getting the beating. Funnily enough, this can actually be considered a crime if you go by the geneva convention; "No general penalty, pecuniary or otherwise, shall be inflicted upon the population on account of the acts of individuals for which they cannot be regarded as jointly and severally responsible." Ofcourse, this deals with the treatment of entire populations under war. But you get the idea.

These girls weren't ready to debut during that time period. The girls could barely sing or have any confidence while performing. You can see the HUGE difference when they came back with Figaro, it was like they were a whole new group, making other groups look like ameteurs. Vocally they are really strong right now. With the lost of Sera, Eunji, Lee Sem, they lost a spark that made them different. I am so sad about them leaving, 9Muses has so much potential but Star Empire is a horrible company. They promoted all year last year and this year they have done absolutely nothing. Not to mention that they took a long time to release music after Ticket was released. When you are a new girl group that is struggling to make it, you need to comeback at least 2 or more every year, look at AOA, Girl's Day, SISTAR when they started out.

Honestly, I cried watching this. I literally cried. I cried because this situation is a norm for most (if not all) K-Pop groups out there. It sucks knowing your bias is all smiles and posing for you on camera but on the inside, they have been hurting mentally and emotionally. I have been a 9Muses fan for quite some time and Sera is my favorite member. Watching this just heightens my love for her. She has shown non-stop dedication and commitment towards achieving her goals, unlike some of the girls. And yet, YET, her messed up label refuses to see her hidden potential. Sigh. She was and will always be (in my heart) a great leader. She took on the blame for other people's mistakes, even going to the extent of covering up for them. It's a good thing Sera left. I wouldn't have wanted her to remain in a group who doesn't commit and be under a label that doesn't appreciate their artist's hard work. Sera noona, I wish you all the best in life. Sera saying they’ve “lost their humanity” and how basically she can’t find the joy or release from singing and dancing anymore really gave me the chills. As kpop fans we love the sparkle, the charismatic idol culture and we really don’t even think about the journey they had to get there. It’s brutal. That manager is horrible. He's so unfit for that job, lmao! He picked Sera to be the leader but didn't think her being young would cause tension, so after months of holding it over their heads, he changes leader weeks before debut? And then after they debut (AFTER) he says the song is horrible and the choreo is bad and makes them watch it 10 - 15 times???? FOR WHY!?!? He keeps messing up and then blaming the girls for his shortcomings. It's so ridiculous. It's not Sera's fault she was picked as the leader, or the management originally picked visual over talent and was shocked when girls were dropping out when they were being tough on them. The problem is they treat them like kids and no adult wants to be treated that way because it's demeaning. Instead of dealing with issues like adults, they scolded them like parents and that fosters negativity. This isn't the standard for the industry and I really hope 9Muses have better management since this was recorded. Their chief manager is ridiculous. You can scold someone without making them feel inadequate. That's not the girls fault (trying to make it their's by picking a new leader, which also only promotes in fighting). The management should have realised they needed a better approach. I bet you 9Muses would have retained a lot more of their members if that was the case.

As a Kpop fan and especially and international fan i know nothing about the truth behind closed doors and i'm sure none you do either. I just hope that other companies don't treat their trainees or idols in the same way. They are humans too. Yes, they do get pressured and critiqued but they shouldn't have to live through that abuse!
@satrina710 жыл бұрын
I didn't find this that disturbing it's actually pretty "normal" (besides I don't think Star Empire is going to let them put the really harsh parts), but I read that the complete documentary is much worst than this :/ When they debuted they got a lot of criticism compering them with SNSD just because they had 9 members, but seriously that debut was bad totally not the best song and bad voices, but since I saw them in the shows and probably because of the rotation of members they started to get better I was amaze when they comeback with "Wild" I started to like them since then, "Wild" "Glue" and "Gun" are really catchy and it's really sad that Eunji is not there anymore I really like her :(

Feel bad for the groups from smaller companies. Actually, whenever a group from "big 3" was to debut (got7, BlackPink, winner, red velvet and etc..) I felt like they are definitely going to be the stars. People pay so much attention to those groups, not considering that other rookies are also talented and work hella hard. What matters in this business is luck and money to be able to get into those bigger companies. Lots of popular grops have extremely rich members, cause being allowed to be a trainee in those companies is a privilege you buy.

So much potential..so many "can be".. I don't know what to say. I thought YG was harsh but compared to this stupid managers who just only know how to yell at them when sth goes wrong instead of giving them chances and teach them to do better by encouraging means, he seems to be a fairy godfather! He actually gives them chances like giving team B a second chance to show their potential by "Mix and Match" and making a new boy group. I know at the end of the day he is also one of those people to whom money is above everything but at least he doesn't want to make stars and idols by yelling at them. Star empire is a pretty well known agency and nine muses are also recognized but what about the other kpop groups that we don't even keep a track about?I can't imagine what they must go through. And those poor girls. Sera have such a beautiful voice. This kind of verbal abuse, stress of debuting and god forbid if they also have to suffer sexual harassment and still stays in the industry then they are probably the most strongest individuals ever. I pray for their souls that they can achieve their dreams and be someone that they deserve. Amen

Good thing Sera left already, she seemed like the most passionate but she needs to find herself something better. She's good looking, a good singer, and if singing means a lot to her she can find a better management.

I honestly expected for groups like this that did not come from an already well known company to be treated like this. Especially nowadays where there're many kpop groups debuting left right and center! Every new company start out from low and the CEO cannot risk his/her investment so they have no choice but to approach them more angrily. Groups that debuts in one of the 3 big company won't definitely get treated that way because it's easy for them to invest, however, lesser known company won't have that benefit because they have to gain fans whom are already fans of other groups and their "bias" won't allow them to check out other groups particular groups that's going to debut.

something unsettling about the people who are just so chill with this and going “eh its the kpop industry!” like why tf are some of y’all so chill about mistreatment and people being treated like they’re not humans. apparently star empire or whatever this company is called is shitty anyways so trying to defend them is pointless. they shouldn’t have been treated like they were less than humans just because they wanted to achieve their dreams. anyways, i hope all the girls are doing well now and living awesome lives

2nd time watching this and I'm still sad from it. Went on a 9muses marathon then came straight to this. I would like to see a raw documentary like this but from a bigger company, which is very unlikely. I feel like the harshness of the trainers can either bring the member closer together or tear them apart. It kinda did both with them i guess.

can somebody tell me how on earth was this even possible for this documentary to be released ? because i don't think that Star Empire wanted to show what they are doing behind the scenes to everyone. they are a cruel, all about money company and i'm really surprised that we can watch this documentary that shows it all, just like this o.O
@whosthatpanda79356 жыл бұрын
edzia13131 Because this isn’t all of it. They’re just showing you the normal things for Kpop trainees plus a few things that are a bit shocking. There are worse things that happen, they just would never show it.
@dnmitch6 жыл бұрын
edzia13131 Money. They allowed it because they probably got a very large commission, and they also probably didn’t allow the final product to be released without their “stamp of approval”. Meaning, they know exactly what is being shown here. And they’re showing it for a reason. To portray that the fans aren’t stupid, but they’re not 1000% correct on how things work in the KPop world..... my opinion, and it’s not the first time a major company has done something like this.

I'm trying not to sound cruel but I wasn't really taken aback by the majority of what I saw here. I actually got the feeling that these people in charge actually somehow cared about the success of the group and that's why they were hard on them. At the same time, it was sad to see how broken and exhausted the girls were. The road to stardom, and even stardom itself, is not all roses. I think the problem is the management of the group, I mean every day they were changing members, the girls couldn't even form a real bond and kinship as a group. Some of them only saw the group as a stepping stone. From the looks of it, only Sera really wanted to be a singer, not a model, actress or something else. The problem is the company just wanted to debut beautiful and tall girls without much singing talent, then they got frustrated at them for not being impressive. I'm sure that many more horrible and unthinkable things go on behind the scenes of these entertainment companies (we've all heard of sexual abuse, etc). So, I understand that they kind of have to be hard on them to get the results that they want but I also think they should work to nurture the girls and their teamwork so that they're not falling apart internally. I wish the best of luck to 9Muses and the girls that left the group, like Sera~

Totally agree. I think the management team was using the Jewelry model and ok with multiple lineup changes. They should be a bit more critical of themselves at selecting talent and their business model, but that ain't going to happen. It was a such a different landscape in the 2000s when Jewelry debuted.

I knew that being an idol was tough but man, this puts it into a new perspective of a small company trying to break out. Kids and teens should really pay attention cause idol life is tough and isnt for everyone. it just sucks cause alot of these girls have soooooo much talent especially Sera and all of them except Hyemi is gone and have been replaced. They keep asking themselves what's wrong with th girls, well, punishing them wasn't the correct way to get their confidence back ¬¬ the CEO and the manager are so UNABLE to give them enough confidence, they just can't handle them by scolds and bash._. They were nervious and anxious because they were new, how can someone expect they'll do it perfect if it's their firts time on stage? they were rookies not professionals ¬_¬ they are actually good at dance and sing, and i like them all.
@leena79614 жыл бұрын
they didnt give them any proper training and were constantly changing out members. of course the debut would be messy and have bad vocals. the management was so dumb and self absorbed, they just blamed everything on the girls. You can tell it wasnt the members' fault bc nine muses' vocals and dancing skills got so much better as time went on, they just needed real training and practice.
@AlekPak4 жыл бұрын
Certainly! Managements had no idea wtf did they want, and how is Sera responsible for other members to show up? And weren't management supposed to schedule classes according to luck of skill singing/dancing etc? Its funny cause they keep telling them you need to listen to us we know what we are doing but they actually have no clue.

That's what I've been thinking as well. How bitter would that be. Just because you have a well-known company, you and your fan don't need to do a lot for you to get a win on a music program. Even you are not as talented, your fan won't mind. However, people are so harsh on groups from not-so-famous companies. My heart was broken everytime I looked at groups like RAINBOW, Nine Muses, Spica, Hello Venus, BESTie, Stellar etc. At the same time, all Korean people talked about is TWICE/Red Velvet/Blackpink...

Just go to show you that debuting from a small company and achieving success is pretty damn hard. You work hard for 4-5 years with not much success then boom a big 3 debutant just swoops in and wins award after award. My heart cries out for those talented groups who just disband after 1-2 songs. BTS is the freak exception and even then it took them 3-4 years to get to where they are today. Now they reached #67 on the Billboard Hot 100. For every BTS and Gfriend, there are like 50 boy groups and 50 girl groups that dont hit it big.
@tomhannah38257 жыл бұрын
Kiki T How could they not?? Just look at Korean media; how often the biggest names like Twice get mentioned, for shit like changing their hairstyles, versus anything about lesser groups? I've counted, there are about 150 girl groups in kpop... But you never hear about the bottom 100...
@rmickb2d1nss967 жыл бұрын
And hence this gave rise to the survival show craze we have seen recently. Look no further than PD101 and soon The UNIT and Mix9 will be airing. What do small and mid-tier companies have to do these days? Send their idols and trainees to these kind of shows just to gain any kind of exposure, whether it will be positive or negative. Its evil, its takes a lot of courage to be on these kind of shows and you are pretty much going to get heartbroken at some point. But at the same time it is a necessity for small and mid-tier companies and a group like NUEST is reaping the rewards. When you look at how many contestants go on those shows... its too much and unfortunately not everyone can have their time in the sun. Kpop is way past its saturation point and if I was a legitimately talented idol that had no success when at the same time a big 3 group just keeps winning and selling, deep down inside I would feel bittersweet, lets be real.

How dare they do that to innocent girls that are just trying to follow their dreams?Looking ath this makes me happy I live in America,what they did was verbal abuse.
