Hey Victor, the Peak Design Packing Cubes are some of our highest-rated cubes with the quick zipper access, compressibility, and solid materials. I really enjoy watching packing related stuff while waiting to be able to travel freely again. I just want to mention that I'm a 60+ yr old female world traveler who's been using packing cubes since before some of you guys were born, and I'm always watching for new innovations despite having accumulated a wide variety of cubes. I can't justify buying any more, but I can look! I love the Eagle Creek ultralight Specters but also like the more structured LLBean classic cubes, and I'm still looking for the perfect lightweight, multi-compartment makeup/toiletry bag. Meanwhile, I'll continue to satisfy my cube/pouch addiction by watching your channel.

We don't really have backpack organizers where I come from, and import fees are crazy high! I asked a local tailor to make a few cubes for me that fits my Aether pack perfectly. Great video! Gave me some ideas. My current ones are all clamshell opens, mesh front panel, elastic straps inside, and are all expandable by twice the size via the all-around zippers. I even have one shaped like my flip flops.

For the ultimate budget option, there's always plastic shopping bags. They're water resistant, weigh almost nothing, and take up no space in your bag. They don't really compress the contents, aren't the most attractive, and usually aren't very durable. However, they can be found just about anywhere, are good for carrying random stuff, and are great for containing messy items like shoes, dirty clothes, trash, etc. They're so useful that I keep several in my purse, travel bag, and car at all times.

REI expandable (use the zippers for compression not to expand them) cubes are my favorites, followed closely by Eagle Creek Specter Tech.

You said you could fit up to 8 t shirts in the cube but it clearly has a huge amount of space left and you could fit another four at least .. underfilling cubes defeat the object of using them as they take up more volume underfilled than if you were to have packed them directly into the bag! if you roll neatly and tightly you can fit 6 t shirts into a large food ziplock so it is all about the packing technique!

I can’t compare with other brands, but we are very happy with the “Pack-It Original” cubes from Eagle Creek. Apart from the smaller ones for socks, underwear and shirts we especially like the big one, which holds the trousers. We travel a lot (OK, not now) with “living out of a suitcase”, which was a mess before we got these cubes. Now, with the cubes in two colors for my wife and me, the daily exercise to unpack (as needed) and pack again is almost a pleasure :-).

Hmmm. For coffee I have: used the MSR 'Mug Mate' brew basket, and their travel French press. Tea filter bags (disposable and reusable), a Central American 'collador', cowboy coffee, Coleman travel pour-over thingy, Mellita plastic pour-over cone, Aeropress in two Iraq tours. Probably some other stuff I've forgotten. Oh yeah, a bicycle pump-looking espresso pod thingy. Some of this stuff was clearly more for ceremonial value than practical caffeination. I like to think I've grown out of that need. Currently because instant coffee has gotten so good I'll take that. Starbucks Via packets get the press but there's better/cheaper stuff out there. Otherwise the Brew Buddy does a single cup of pour-over or hot soak well and is cheap, compact and easy. But the best bang-for-the-space/weight/buck is a small nylon mesh draw-string 'nut milk' bag which will make a liter of cold brew, or do tea or hot soak or pour-over coffee with the help of a rubber band. Weighs less than a quarter of an ounce and takes up the space of a single baby sock, works in a variety of containers, and holds coffee with accouterment for packing.

I like the eagle creek pack it originals as they are clamshell and it's nice to just pull them out at a destination and effectively have a little closet. The osprey ultra light set is great too. I like the look and feel and they fit perfectly into my bag (osprey FP) as do the eagle creek cubes. The opening is the main drawback on these. Is it worth upgrading to the isolate cubes? Are they that much of a step up from the original pack it?

I've never used compression packing cubes but am considering them for an upcoming safari, where bag size is limited and space is at a premium. My question: It seems to me that if I'm only packing clothes, then small/medium compression cubes would be more valuable than large ones -- because they "bow" and don't provide that much compression in the middle. In other words, more smaller cubes will compress and pack better than fewer large ones. Is my assumption correct?

best packing cubes are walmart bags, free and you can throw them way after a trip to save environment by not having more things to wash. Zippers, plastics, packing materials, labels, marketing budget, filming budget. These companies that are eco neutrals aren't really that neutral if you take in account these other things that go into first world solutions looking for a problem.
