Reason #9 is why I got into Bourbon, at the start of the pandemic I picked up a bottle of Buffalo Trace and 50+ unique bottles later I’m in love.

#9 Absolutely!!! I 💯% decided to collect bourbon starting May 2021. I had disposable income no longer being used on going out to eat, shopping and movies... Plus bourbon hunting is a solitary experience that is pretty COVID-19 safe.

A beer-buddy came down with Type 2 Diabetes and he truthfully confessed to his doc that he drank a lot of beer each week. The doc proceeded to tell him that spirits such as vodka, tequila, whiskey, etc. don't have carbs. He consequently got into bourbon & Irish whiskey -- and so did I.

I just was considering a video along very similar lines, but this is much better than I would’ve come up with! Mostly though, the bringing people together and not about getting drunk, but actually extending time spent with a single glass. It’s so unique in that sense and allows for that genuine generosity and ongoing exploration. Cheers!

Can’t disagree with any of the 9 reasons. I hit a few pretty hard, inspired by podcast lists, “lower cal”, lock down. I think the real start was when local distilleries pivoted to making hand sanitizer on their own dime, I wanted to support them, and started buying their product(they would ship products in state). And now I feel I have single handedly supported Kentucky and Indiana whiskey’s production. Love the content and message.
@BourbonRealTalk
@BourbonRealTalk 3 жыл бұрын
So glad you enjoyed it! Not all states allow the producers to ship their product, and many TX distilleries are about to go out to business because covid killed their tourism sales. Distillery direct sales are important for producers because they normally give up about 50% of a bottle's value to the 2nd and 3rd tier. When they sell direct they keep that money. Glad you were able to support your favorite producers during the pandemic. Wish we could do that in TX.

Reason 4...ugh. F the secondary market. I mean, it made me have to branch out from my favorites as they disappeared from the shelves, so that's a benefit I guess, but I miss my always on the shelf Weller 12.
@BourbonRealTalk
@BourbonRealTalk 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the demand created by the secondary brought in billions in expansion creating new whiskey, jobs, taxes, etc. It sucks right now if you love a rare brand, but in the end it will be better.

Randy, thank you for the great content! We love you too! Your reasons are solid, and for me, less carbs, higher tariffs on scotch and more time in 2020 were the catalysts to take a deeper dive. It's fun some times to "drink along" with WhiskeyTubers since sitting at a bar is still kinda iffy.

OMG! So many great points, but I'll stop on gluten. I've been loving my IPA's for years and dealing with sinus issues. I thought it was because of alcohol intolerance, but it's actually gluten intolerance. Recently, getting hooked by the "hunting" aspect of my disposable covid income for my mother-in-law's Christmas gift, I found this out. Why, because you need to know the gift your giving. Duh! ...the old bat loves Bourbon Whiskey. And I'm her favorite son-in-law! of course I'm the only competition. -haha. Thanks so much for your videos!

Some great observations. I lost 20 pounds when I switched from craft beer to vodka and gin martinis. But a few months ago when I discovered the exquisite flavor profiles of bourbons, I will never go back to vodka and gin. Scotch whiskey, I have no palettte for it (yet?).

My opinion why bourbon’s popularity is growing : 1) bourbon are mostly on sweeter side which i think whisky consumers like better than scotch or other whisky which are made with malt which is more spicy less sweet. 2) bourbon are more in pure form as they are not added with artificial colour whereas most scotch are coloured and people luv to have natural form of whisky . 3) bourbon mostly are sold with high abv in most case which saves the flavour of whisky rather than scotch which are so much watered down they are less enjoyable to drink . 4) scotch are mostly aged in used barrels and most are finished product where they use different wine , beer , cognac , rum , brandy cask which is like a cocktail where it loses its original flavour n taste but bourbon mostly are sold as it is after it comes out of original cask where it was aged which lets u taste the original flavour of real whisky. 5) more than nosing i think palate does matter and even though bourbon are aged typically lesser age they are aged in virgin charred cask which gives the spirit lots of flavour from cask and whisky consumers enjoy it rather than scotch or any other whisky which are aged in used barrel have less flavour bcoz the used barrel have already been used and it can’t give much flavour to second or third or multi barrelled juice inside it . ( i was scotch drinker , i have tasted many world whiskies from asian whisky , japanese whisky , canadian whisky and many bourbon n ryes and after drinkking bourbon/ rye i just don’t want to go back to scotch . everyone has their own preference which i respect and its ur choice to drink what u like , cheers 🥃

While these are all very valid reasons to like Bourbon if you were a scotch drinker, I do not know how much these reasons would affect someone deciding to get into bourbon since this is information that only the top tier enthusiast would know all the things you just mentioned.

Great Job Randy. Another one you hit out of the park. For me The 9th reason hit home. Not sure why but Bourbon does not give me headaches like all other alcohol does. I can drink one beer and pay for it with a 2 hour long headache. I also have gluten issues too. That's what got me started going down this road but I talk bourbon with my brothers and dad. It's common ground that we can't argue about. lol

Thanks, great video. I became interested in bourbon after visiting Buffalo Trace in November, so you nailed that on the head with the info on tourism consultants turning the bourbon trail into a destination. I suppose the pandemic also gave me the time and money to try new things and check into my local liquor store every week or two for allocated products.

I discuss this stance in this podcast. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ6vZ5ifl8ihkKc. Basically BH is the same had OGD at a lower proof and higher price, so I get why enthusiasts dislike it. It isn't because it tastes bad...it just isn't the best value. It is a great gateway bourbon though.
