9 second Lincoln Continental Takes Out Mclaren 570s in a drag race at Houston Raceway Park

@marksmachineshop 1969 Lincoln Mark III runs a personal best of 9.89 @ 137.5 out running a Mclaren 720s who went 10.18 @138... this pass was the first time a Lincoln Mark III broke in to the 9 second quarter mile zone in history
P.s. the Lincoln started smoking from a loose valve cover bolt misting oil on the header, was no issue at all and an easy fix

@@gassyirishman2859 You're likely correct but I do wonder if maybe they could weld and raise the stock center part of the hood at it's natural body lines, sorta like a cowl induction Chevy hood, and get the clearance with a more subtle look. Or modify the cross member to gain an inch or two. Most people are probably not 100% sure how tall a stock Lincoln hood is in the middle but they probably know a scoop like that is not stock.

Took my drivers test in one of these and drove in HS. Used to smoke Vette's and TA's of the mid 70's era with it on cruise night in my local town. In bone stock form with all the weight, these things would do block long burnouts! Great memories. Cool race car. I love it!

I had a triple black Mark III. I remember a gas station selling high octane aviation fuel. That car loved it. It was fast for a 4600lb tank.

These days it's funny when someone calls a car like this Lincoln or my 64 Galaxie fastback a tank. The Lincoln might weigh 4600lbs, my Galaxie weighs 4020 with an FE engine, a 2019 Challenger hemi weighs 4448lbs. No one calls a Challenger or a Mustang or a new Camaro a tank.

Back in 77, I built and raced my 73 Ford LTD Brougham. I could easily take Mustangs and Camaro's of the day. I still have the 425 M with Cleveland 4V heads and a built C6 ATI trans. Sadly the body gave out in the eighties. Love those big boats. So did the ladies. Bench seat!
